When everything goes wrong
Sometimes it makes no sense
Hey, hey
There once was a time
I should have known better then
Hey, hey
Although you may try
It won't come your way again
Hey, little girl
Where will you hide
Who can you run to now
Hey, little girl
Where will you go
Who can you turn to now
Hey, hey
So why should I care
If somebody let you down
Hey, hey
That's nothing new
I know just what that can mean
Hey, hey
Well, the way that they talk
The talk is all over town
Hey, hey
And it's no surprise
Little girls hurt sometimes
Hey, little girl
Where will you hide
Who can you run to now
Hey, little girl
Where will you go
Who can you turn to now
Hey, hey
When everything goes wrong
Sometimes it makes no sense
Hey, hey
Hey, little girl
I should have known better
Known better then
Hey, hey
Hey, little girl
Where will you hide
Who can you run to now
Hey, little girl
Where will you hide
Who can you run to now
Hey, little girl
Where will you go
Who can you turn to now
On a day Bill seems somehow bent on an Aussie trip; Not Drowning, Tash, Tame, Courtney..et al…the same day I booked into the re-vamped hotel where Icehouse, formerly Flowers, cut their teeth in the early - mid 80’s, a cool little venue in the inner west of Sydney. Long live RP and long live music venues that give fledgling bands a crack, and a chance to fulfil their destiny.
Yes, I realize there’s a long “tradition” of similar references in the blues and early R&R, but that doesn’t mean we need to continue it into the 2020s and beyond. Strangely, “baby” doesn’t seem as bad, in reference to women or men, because I think we all realize that, while it may or may not be a term of endearment, it is not intended to equate an adult to an infant (IMO). OK, rant over, baby! ; )
I thought this was Robert Palmer...
Never thought about the Robert Palmer influence until now. You're right. And he was a genius.
For a second? I thought this was Roxy Music for the past 40 years...
I would have stood up in a court of law and sworn Your Honour, this IS Bryan Ferry!!
Great tune, nonetheless! My thoughts exactly!!
One of the 1st bands to use the Fairlight Synth....it was a programming beast...like needed to be a rocket scientist to work! But a totally new sound nobody had.
Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel are heavy users of the Fairlight.
memories of Sydney early 90's when I was 21 a long time ago!
Great tune, nonetheless! And in the photo of the album he looks like Rick Astley
I love the early stuff recorded under the band name Flowers. Great Aussie music.
Just LIKED this comment, then realised that I wrote it!
Yup, Dancing on the Jetty would be a perfect companion piece to this!
I was always amazed why Icehouse, Split Enz (Crowded House) never got the attention they deserved. What a great band and killer records. As good as Bowie, Roxy, Talk Talk and the list goes on!! Thanks Bill!!
Bowie? That's a stretch.

I could never understand why Iva Davies and Icehouse never clicked over here in NA. He had a chameleon like voice and wrote catchy tunes on par with anything at the time from Roxy Bowie Simple Minds etc.
Maybe because that niche was already occupied?

Same thing happened with Split Enz/Crowded House. I love these guys and Ice House and have all their records

How long do you imagine that'll take?
Great tune, nonetheless! Me too, I always thought it was Bryan Ferry/ Roxy Music!
Great tune, nonetheless! me too, I always used to think this was Roxy Music.
Great tune, nonetheless!
Not if you remember it.
Sure, LOTS of rock/pop lyrics are, but "hey little girl where will you hide"?
Mmm, sounds more like David Bowie on a Ferry to his Icehouse

How about some Triffids, as well. I'd be stoked once and a while to hear some Wide Open Road.
That's close, but not quite. . . .
Totally Roxy.
What's that? Huh? Oh...oh...never mind...
Ooooh yeah this one, wow man, simply cool : )
I remember this coming out, and I remember thinking exactly this at the time.
Yeah, it has a nice sound, a bit like Roxy Music. Don't remember it from the era. Not on Amazon either. There's always Youtube....

I bought their Primitive Man CD from Amazon so yes, they do have the song plus a plethora of other good ones. I want to thank RP for reminding me of this excellent band.

Funny you should say that... they opened for Roxy Music in the Sydney Cricket Ground concert in the very early 1980's. Great concert even if I can't remember the exact year.
Was convinced it was Bryan.
Mos def
(Chuckling) Not Rick (Springfield?) though I see the resemblance. That's Iva Davies, front man for Australian band Icehouse.
Hey, even if the reference was to Rick Astley (whom I saw on TV the other day), there's a good article here about Rick Springfield. The guy is busy with recording, performing and acting on TV ( including "Californification" and "True Detective"):

I think she's referring to Rick Astley.
Ah, just so. Thanks.
Well, I’ve been rolled. Never gonna live that down.

Please also play Uncertain Smile by The The and Tinsletown in the Rain by The Blue Nile...
I loved these guys back in the day too. Not sure it passes the test of time.
I really thought, "How could I never have hard this Roxy Music tune?!"
Weird feeling, but getting me to look up bands and musicians I've never heard of is one of the things I love about RP. Keep the variety!!
The singer's vocal style was obviously influenced by Bryan Ferry, but musically, this does not sound very much like Roxy Music to me.

get into the car.
it's a brand new cadillac.
bright red.
And this track is older than listed above. Circa 1982, I think.
Yes they were/are Australian. Hence the name of the album that this came from, "Great Southern Land".

OK, I realize this is from 1989, but hopefully moving forward we can retire the expression “Little Girl” as a reference to adult women. Just a tad creepy, IMO.

Next time cut back on the coffee and try a more mellow strain of weed.
