Hmm. I quite like some of BDB's stuff, but don't have this album. This one falls under what I term "Challenging, but might grow on me". For anyone not acquainted with his work, he is well worth checking out though - try "Stone on the Water" from the "Hour of the Bewilderbeast" album for something a tad more accessible, and very, very beautiful.
It's a mess, but each of the songs that got thrown in the blender is pretty good so I gave it a 6.
I don't know what's wrong with having multiple songs in one. The Beatles, to mention just one band, did that pretty often and were quite good at it. I think it shows talent beyond the bland one demensionality of a lot of singer/songwriters out there.
8) (reminds me of Pale Saints, but less noisy)
If you are into this at all, you should also check out Jon Brion.
Bleah. Too many songs in one.
....when the sappy violins started I just couldn't get past it! Oh well, glad everyone else is enjoying it.
Yes, BDB on RP! Most Excellent!
LOVE this album... I appreciate that he doesn't sound like everyone else. Sometimes the lyrics are repetitive, especially if you listen to the album the whole way through... but I love the musicianship.
Noice :)
i definitely appreciate this one. yes i do.
I think I would prefer it if this was 2 or 3 or 4 songs, not one.
Great song, though some of their songs are just tedious
this sucks.
Keep It!!!

Even you, good Dr., get it wrong sometimes. Yech!

I couldn't understand all this attention for a song someone hates. Then I found myself sucked into listening to the whole song by the the vast range of unconnected hooks and themes. Now I understand what got catmaven going....this song just keeps finding new ways to be mediocre.
Bill, All the reasons they list for disliking the song, are precisely the reasons I enjoy it! Keep it in the mix!

Buzzes and grumbles and experimental noises, mixed with repetitious see-sawing and then time-signature-ignoring breathy lullaby sort-of singing that gets a little jazzy. What an inchoate, incompatible, irritatingly disparate mix. Now someone is singing do do do do do and another is making airplane sounds. The slow hook with pauses every word or two is arguably the worst aspect of the song.

he can do a LOT better than this

I liked it. Want to hear it again.
I added this song because I think it's the pinnacle of this album. The album is good but this song just takes me to another place... I'm interested to hear what people think.
