Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, open up your eyes
Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies
The wind is low, the birds will sing
That you are part of everything
Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes?
Look around round
Look around round round
Look around
Dear Prudence, let me see you smile
Dear Prudence, like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again
Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile?
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you

NICE!!!
Hasn't aged well for me. It's a little like taking Amazing Grace and doubling the tempo and adding dopey reverb to make it into a psychedelic anthem that it never was. But I like Siouzsie, she is especially fun to watch on old British TV talk shows. Didn't take herself too seriously but definitely had her own strong feminine grace and style.
Point of order, Bill: 'Hyaena' was released in 1984!

I had no idea this was a Beatles song.
Only version I know is by S and the B's.
Must go find original version now.

Not my favorite Beatles song to start, and this cover does nothing for me.
Good version.
Beatles covers are very hard to do.

Years later I come back to find too many prudes wanting a gilded Beatle(s).
I grew up on The Beatles long before I could read or write.
To read the many comments below one must nearly absolve themselves of the works of Siouxsie.
The cover of DP compliments the original, and still to this day, "Bring me the head of the Preacher Man" is a very great song.
But a prude would never admit these realities especially if to compromise their sensibility.
but, whatever... I will always prefer a house blown down v a castle.

I love both versions, but I seem to prefer her's to theirs. The Beatles are the Beatles, but this is really well done. JMHO
I really don't like The Beatles, but that's just a personal preference. However, without trying to be biased, I honestly do think that this version is much better than the original.
Siouxsie's voice is just fantastic, as always.
If you don't like it, great. But get over the fact that they covered the frickin beatles. There are lots of covers that I don't like but it doesn't mean that they're taking a crap on the original. Last time I checked the beatles weren't at the the last supper and I'm pretty sure that they're not in the Koran either, so save the divinty stuff. I think that I'll upload every beatles cover that I can find, maybe greenday and Bon Jovi did one that I don't know about.

I really don't think Siouxsie was ever trying to BE the beatles. She was doing a cover. It is allowed you know. The Beatles are not sacrosanct. And I love BOTH the Beatles and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Well said...These darn purists..
Hmmm... usually don't mind Beatles covers but this song is untouchable. It was just too perfect the first time.

Either you're the Beatles or you aren't, there's no use pretending.

No question why Siouxsie-before-Beatles listeners love this version -- it's an okay version of a brilliant song. I don't fault you, but I heard the Beatles version first, and that was all she wrote for Siouxsie. Even now, I hate this. I guess I'm the purist I always said I'd never be.
Ooops - I take that back.
Penalty for overindulgent flanger effect on the whole track!
This is wrong on many levels.
Maybe if she didn't sing - the music's not bad...

Some bands should never BE covered. . . .

I reconsider-this is very cool. What was I thinking?

I agree. I really like this cover, I think it's a nice take on the original. :D

It's like television commercials where they get a sound-alike band to sing a famous song... S&B don't add much to this Beatles classic.

.....
Agreed, a great album. One of my favorites of that period.
I think I threw up in my mouth.

God, finally a song that's not a total snoozer today.

One of the very few Beatles covers that actually are quite likeable, made by a punk-turned-goth chick no less. Shock horror! I Certainly like the way Siouxsie sings "won't you come out and plaaay" in an unmistakable british accent. ;)
yES, PLAY IT MORE AND MORE...YOU SEE, EIGHTIES ARE NOT AS BAD...
At first I was repulsed, but I kinda like the phase shifting effects and the harpsichord-sounding keyboard. I like the Jerry Garcia Band cover better, but this is listenable.

Takes me back to listening to John Peel in the darkness of my bedroom with the transistor radio right up close to my ear cos it was wayyyyyyyyyyy past my bedtime.
Love the song and the memories. Cheers RP!
Well, it's not that bad. But it's not going to make anyone forget John Lennon either.
A really lame version of Dear Prudence, unfortunately, since Siouxsie generally get 10 stars from me.

NO, wait! I want to hear *Swimming Horses* That shouldn't ruffle too many of the prudes out there.

Dang! I missed it! Haven't heard this in years, and yes, I heard this version before I heard the original. (But have listened to the original much more often than this cover!)
definitely not my favorite version - has anyone heard the afghan wigs cover of this? has a little more juice to it.

I agree. Maybe that's why I really like this cover, even though I grew up listening to the inimitable original.
Sometimes I feel really young when I read the comments here (I'm 40)! I didn't hear the original until years after falling in love with this version. Some of us were toddlers when the Beatles were around (or not even born) and we grew up with Siouxsie, et al. Hey, it's still a grerat song, and I like this version much better.
Ahhhh - Siouxsie!
A goth chick that can actually pull it off!
Great cover. A Beatles cover (written by John, no?) played just after Elvis Costello doing a Yoko Ono cover. That\'s funny.
Well, for once the thread between songs is clear to me.
I don\'t mind this cover, but what a warped world we live in wherein this gets more airplay than the original!
Hey, they probably had some studio time to eat up and the original is a great song. I don\'t really dig their version, but respect them for paying tribute to it.
Amazing - a remake that sucks all the life out of a great tune.
Pointless!
Well, it's an interesting exercise. But nowhere near the emotional impact of the original, at least for me.
Nevertheless, I still do know all the words, even with somebody else singing them.
I saw this on earlier playlists...thanks!
Ick.
You gotta be kidding....

Thank you, uploader. I\'ve heard this elsewhere and I\'m so glad someone was able to get it on here!!!!

Absolutely...think "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" by Joe Cocker or "In My Life" by Judy Collins, this song while not in those covers league is not all that bad.
Oh god.. not many songs REALLY bring back memories... but this one does! I was a nice little screwed up punk teenager (laugh go ahead).. and scary.. but this was the song I remember being the first \'making love\' song... LOL

Nice. Nice.
I\'ve always liked this remake. I especially like the echo & reverb on the \"look around, round round round...\"
:)
what\'s the point of making this, let alone playing it?
Please play it again.......no sooner than 10 years!
This is a pretty decent cover, but I think that Siouxsie Sioux could have done a lot more experimentation with her vocals in order to make it a unique Banshees production.

I\'m not sure why I get so irritated when I hear covers of Beatles tunes. Maybe it\'s because they almost invariably fall short of the original. I can\'t say this is an exception.
A good take on the original. I like it.
Oh, FIRST POST!
(Sorry, always wanted to say that :))
