I had opportunity to record with my ex-band in some hi-end rec.studio here in Slovenia,   control room had some crazy expensive speakers , absorbers/diffusors etc. The engineer was super friendly guy,  allowed me to play music while he was prepairing drums for recording. This song came to my mind beside ELP`s From the begining... i was blown away by quality of this song, all instruments were separeted in space, details i never heard before, his dark voice above all instrument, stereo on those oriental stick drums and that "musical silence"  I liked this song  long before but after listening in that studio i learned also to respect that technical production part wich is fenomenal here . This song is perfect in so many ways- I love RP

Great comparison!

"Hyacinth House" was a huge favorite of mine, as a secret 'breakup' song for my controlling, jealous and 'morally superior' girlfriend (SMC) way back when I was in my early 20s.  Boy did she hate The Doors and  loath The Lizardking, and all the "hippie shit" that came with Doors' music and culture that I was diggin'.

This Dead Can Dance tune is impressive in how good it sounds and I love the dark context of the lyrics' deep meaning; this one's a 9.

When I first heard this playing on RP I thought it must be a Jim Morrison / Doors song that I somehow never heard before.  Strange since I have all the Doors albums that I have listened to each of them dozens of times. I was so surprised when I jumped on RP to see it was Dead Can Dance. I somehow missed this group in my music listening history. I will definately seek out their music to hear more of their catalog.

I agree; this singer's got a deep voice and is reciting the lyrics the way Morrison often did, but he doesn't really sound like Morrison much more than he sounds like Neil Diamond.

DCD was one of my favorite bands as teen, but i havent seen their live performance until September 2012 when i seen them performing live in Zouk Mikel area of Beirut, in Ancient Roman Amphitheater, i can only say I was mesmerized by the DCD's performance and the venue they have selected for their gig... listening the Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove live was simply beyond magic, the ancient roman pillars, sunset over Mediterranean sea in background, Lisa and Brendan ..... simply beyond magic ....

I have to say, I don't hear the resemblance to JM either. I hope that more of their albums like Aion will be been included at some point; it specifically has a very medieval feel to it, imo, and the rest of them have a strong world music influence. If you haven't, find one of their performances on YT in which Lisa Gerard plays the Chinese dulcimer- it is interesting, to say the least. I recognised this from the first note with its distinctive pitch and timbre. This has been one of my fave DCD albums for a couple of decades. What I loved about them, and indeed about RP, was their stylistic eclecticism and the wide variety of instruments, and of course Lisa Gerrard's wideranging voice. Brendan Perry also has a fine voice, but it's no accident that Gerrard has had a good solo career after DCD whereas Perry's works have languished. It's good that they're back together again, though.

I never did figure out who Mr Lovegrove was, and why he was so ubiquitous...
