A throwaway from an open grave
Cut you loose from a chain gang and let you go
And on the day you said it's true
Some love holds, some gets used
Tried to tell you I never knew it could be so sweet
Who could ever be so cruel?
Blame the devil for the things you do
It's such a selfish way to lose
The way you lose these wasted blues
These wasted Blues
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
When the moon is a counterfeit
Better find the one that fits
Better find the one that lights the way for you
When the road is full of nails
Garbage pails and darkened jails
And their tongues are full of heartless tales that drain on you
Who would ever notice you?
You fade into a shaded room
It's such a selfish way to lose
The way you lose these wasted blues
These wasted blues
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
reminds me of Sufian Stevens, but without his tender voice
I'm a fan of both but sometimes Sufjan's tender wavers into insipid.
I hear a Doors song from Apocalypse Now in the opening …
The classic, "I see the wires" quip against a puppeteer; but set to be against a musician.
I loved the Odelay album in its entirety, then this song came after it and I was totally floored - so different to his output prior - probably my fave track of his - it's obviously not as 'fun' as much of his other work, but the quality... it's here in abundance.
Agree. That's how I feel with every Beck album. He transitions from rap to electronic music, funk, country, norteno... plays about 15 instruments, and then goes ahead and produces the album as well. For fun on the side he arranges full performances with some of the best orchestras out there. I get that his sensibilities aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I really believe he is going to be remembered as a rare and unique generational talent.
Still not a believer? Check out his full orchestra arrangement of Bowie's 'Sound and Vision'.
Beck is amazing… Can all the negative nobodies just fuck off already.
Negative on negative people. You fuck off.
To be honest back then I was not impressed. But like moss, he grows on you. And some of what he has gone on to do has been quite good. Regardless of the career one chooses it's all about growth and development, isn't it? And in this he's done well.
Just some thoughts.
Highlow~

This guy always "borrows" from someone. Never an original composition.
I think it was Keith Richards who said there was only one original song ever written and it was by Adam & Eve. Everything else goes from there!
You know what they say, there are no original thoughts (...on the Internet...) any longer
Sounds like Pink Floyd
always wondered why this song is never segued into or out of with the Doors' "The End." Guess Bill isn't a fan of the song.
The End a 12 minute song. That would be like 18 minutes of droning depressing music. Although I do like both songs.
Now several vinyl purchases later...

Zeppelin has a song called Nobody's Fault But Mine that blows this outta the water, just sayin'.. 😀

Oh yeah? Well, Yo Mama!!
Well yeah, but that's Zeppelin

And in the combination of all the 'borrowings' he creates something completely 'original' - I'll go +1 to 8 based on Fred's 'sounds-like' of a GREAT Doors track. Long Live RP and borrowing from previous artists!!
Then I'd hate to hear his worst!
Yes.
Yes.

I am so proud of myself.

Hey by the way, for long time RP listeners whatever happened to "Physics Genius"? He used to get everyone mad with his posts. Is he still around?
I am so proud of myself.

Yes, me too. Scroll down. Go rent Apocalypse Now now (rent it now, I mean). If you have not seen it, you are in for the greatest experience of your life.
Possibly the worst movie of all time.

First saw it in high school, right after I'd read (by coincidence) "Heart of Darkness". My two friends and I were late getting to the theater, so we had to sit in the very front row. We were so blown away we scrunched down at the end, avoided getting kicked out by the ushers, and watched it all the way through again.
For years afterwards, I'd come across people watching "Apocalypse Now" on a tape or DVD, persuade myself that I'd only watch the opening scene...and stay for the whole thing.
Saw "AN Redux" at the Uptown Theater in DC (huge curved screen for all you non-Washingtonians, the biggest commercial theater room in the city)...Have to say that Coppola largely made the right cuts to make the '79 version. The "Redux" scenes with the French holdouts were interesting but could have meant so much more...
Loved the Harrison Ford cameo. Star Wars had recently come out and we were all going "OMFG! It's Harrison Ford!! WTF is he doing in this?!? He looks so dweeby..."
AN and Bladerunner (which came out in '82) blew my mind and shaped my ideas about film for years.
miss you so much, Cynaera...
love this song...
Pleasantly so, but I still have the urge to give Beck a wedgie for faulting himself ad nauseam.
For starters, he's a freaky Scientologist, which makes absolutely no sense to me because his lyrics are at once thoughtful and right on the money about so many things.
I know what you mean. I think Tom Cruise is a great actor too. One thing that perplexes me more than anything is this group and how they attract the smart, talented people they do. But all religions do that. I am sure they really mean well. As an atheist, if a religious person pressed me hard with the question "OK, fine, then where do we find meaning in life?" then I have no rebuttal - I am a bit of an "existentialist" that way. But it is incumbent on these artists to address the many serious allegations made against the church.

Yeah.....what Ann said......I'm gonna try to remember this. not easy today.....
Yes, but there is inspiration in the clarity and honesty...not to mention integrity with taking FULL responsibility!

And then Aerosmith's "Nobody's Fault." I forget which album it's from. I am a bad, bad audiophile

You've nailed it!! I agree!

tuning is like neil young's fav double dropped D but another step lower
There is nothing he seems not able to do with quality.
I echo that sentiment. In my case it's good to hear the music AT home. Just got back from 8 months in Boston. It's Saturday morning, gotta mug of black-as-pitch coffee, eggs up, and toast. My favorite radio station, favorite place to be and my favorite time of the entire week.
If you blame someone else,
there is no end to the blame.
It IS my favorite Beck tune. I love this whole album, but this song just stands out. It's got this mellow, psychedelic sound to it with some of his best lyrics.

Me too.
Definitely one of his very best.
It sounds like an updated version of The Door The End
I always think it is for a few moments when it begins.
Me too...but I don't know why.
It sounds like an updated version of The Door The End

Please, next time just hit the button instead telling everyone. No one cares and it is very annoying.
I hate a pile-on but this seems appropriate
