They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now
I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan
Then we take Berlin
I'm guided by a signal in the heavens
I'm guided by the birthmark on my skin
I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons
First we take Manhattan
Then we take Berlin
I'd really like to live beside you baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line that's moving
Through the station
I told you
I told you
I told you I was one of those
I don't like your fashion business mister
I don't like those drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan
Then we take Berlin.
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now
I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan
Then we take Berlin

Surprisingly un-bad.
Not so sure.

PLEASE NO! Let's not hear anything from REM.

Cocker has done some covers that arguably best the original (With a Little Help from My Friends) and some that at least hold their own (You can Leave Your Hat On).
This, I'm sorry to say, is neither. It's all overwrought angst instead of dark forboding. Meh.
Agreed. This one rates a 4 only because it's a great song.
What a waste of time

When I first heard this, I thought it was an unimaginative cover of the Cohen/Warne original (Famous Blue Raincoat album). I still think that.
It's a Cohen original; the Warnes version is a cover.
Then we'll take Chicago but probably just leave Peoria.
Or sell it on ebay.
Whoa, this is lame. The original(s) and their understatement have so much more class.

Bill used to play that, but the masses deemed it unsuitable.
Too bad, I thought it was much better than this Cocker cover.
Totally agreed.

Surreal.

I own an R.E.M. cover... Would that be a proper upload? (I'm not a big Cocker fan...)

Not outstanding but pretty good.Joe's pipes sound much better since he stopped smoking.
Meh. I love Cocker, but this cover is a pale imitation of the original.
Is this John Belushi singing? I could never take Joe Cocker seriously after seeing that sketch-too funny. I dunno there is something inherently corney about Joe's singing style. The production values are top notch on this song-the band is good but I just can't get into the singing.
Volume is going up on this one, grumpy old co-worker complains, I tell grumpy old co-worker to get bent.
I've liked Joe Cocker from the days of Mad Dogs and Englishmen... dude got soul oozing from him
Time to retire ....
