Love Chris Isaak.  So SF.  Where I lost a few hearts and smoked my first joint.  After an April 15th march to end the war.  Country Joe was singing on the back of a flat  bed truck, about the buys I was flying home from Nam  in  a box.

What Elvis could have gone on and done and sold 100s of millions more records, if he didn't have mother issues and wasn't a good ol' boy. Chris carries on the spirit of that sweetness and romanticism (if not the record sales).

Yes, I hear it too. It's a similar guitar sound. I think "Lily was Here" is from Candy Dulfer's album "Saxuality". Dave Stewart on guitar and Candy Dulfer on sax.

Since the first time I first heard Chris Isaak around 1990 I never wanted to dislike him, and never have. He (and his band) are excellent in my opinion. I do prefer the original version of this song, as others have said. But Baja Sessions is a great album. Great summer music.

He does have a style all his own, although I agree in that in this song, his full vocal force is not realized fully - only in a few parts of it. Somehow I get the feeling that "Baja Sessions" may have more than his usual suave, romantic themes. Cannot blame him if he were hitting on college girls, by the way.

The only thing that I can guess at is that a lot of his music sounds very country. I went into my favorite used CD store one time and found one of his albums and gave it a listen. I'd heard two of the tracks before, but everything else on there sounded nothing like those.

Here is why context is so important and songs sometimes need more than a couple of listens before it \"clicks\": heard this just now and went to give it a strong \"quite likeable\" rating - only to find that I had previously given it a \"4\". Wow. I am glad I came to my senses. ;)
