Once upon a time, I was wandering down Front Street in Lahaina, Maui, with a couple of buddies. That wasn't unusual; for four years, I was a crewmember on the USS Tunny, a 'fast-attack' submarine based in Pearl Harbor. The sub actually went to Lahaina twice, and us sailors learned that Lahaina was a happening town. We returned often when we could.
Well, we were wandering past the Lahaina Yacht Club and I dared my buddies to go in with me. To assuage their concerns that we'd be unceremoniously (and immediately) tossed back into the street, I promised two rounds on me.
The place was empty, and the bartender was eager for company. We chatted for a few minutes, guzzled our beers (sailors!) and a Fleetwood Mac song came over the stereo. The bartender says, "Yeah, Mick and his crew were in here last week. He has this big wooden yawl named Challenge, and always stops in for a few days when the boat's here."
"He had these long-sleeve t-shirts printed up for their cruise," he continued, pointing to a rack of t-shirts illustrated by a sailboat being steered by a teddy bear, with Challenge: Pacific Cruise 1978 emblazoned on the right sleeve. "Those are leftovers he donated to the Club. You want one?"
Each of us bought one, finished our beers and headed out the door. Now, however, we were wandering with a purpose: impostors pretending to be Mick Fleetwood's professional sailing crew.
oh wow ! an 11 !ooooh
this rocks
I wonder why
The personnel! With FM it's easy to concentrate on the guitar players, but damn - Mick and John are going to town!

How many bands have there been that shifted completely from one sound to another?
Jefferson Airplane, from the folky music of "Takes Off" to the freewheeling psychedelia of "Crown of Creation" and "After Bathing at Baxters"
They were so much better w Peter Green. Love this era
This is the first 'post Peter' album...
You mean the human metronome? I think they use him to calibrate electronic drums. Heck, Mac and Mick make an outstanding rhythm section here, been together a lonnnng time. I'll bet that few people outside RP listeners know about this FM era. Damn fine tunes.
I knew of this when this came out, so roughly 50 years before I joined RP. And I had Buckingham/Nicks shortly after it came out. I feared I would lose two of my favorite bands when they joined, but they made a lot of fine music together. Perhaps not quite up to this standard, but very little is.
Having said that, RP has been a revelation with new artists, listening to songs from bands I'd heard of but never listened to and listening again to songs I'd lost touch with years ago.
I have Tusk, because I bought it new, but the Bare Trees I acquired some years ago is more favorite. My FM LP collection is gonna grow in the pre-Buckingham/Nicks days.
Thanks BillG for keeping this stuff alive.
You will be rewarded. I have the opposite experience - grew up with early FM and eschewed the BuckNicks era. After 40 odd years I'm realizing I'm only punishing myself and have started to dig into that 'newer' trove of music. I think I will also be rewarded.

I guess the singer could be singing to a long cool woman in a black dress called Holly, which came after!
Pink Floyd. Early stuff very hard rock. Acid rock some tunes. By Animals, different sound. By Wall, well, you know.
That image smells like cocaine and cheating.
for 'smells like' I read 'accurately reflects'! Creative influences or results of success - discuss...

Reminds of a college prank. We felt a girl in our circle was making WAY to much out of her relatioinship with her teddy bear, so we borrowed it for an afternoon and shot Polaroids portraits of him - his foot dangling above an knocked over stool, his lower torso sticking out of the oven, etc. She did not think it was funny, but, like so many artists, we were creating for ourselves, so it did not matter.
Thanks BillG for keeping this stuff alive.
... and Mystery to Me.
Oh yeah. These guys once played RnR.
Actually quite well.

Actually quite well.
Had this album and think it's the best work this band ever played.

zesty ! tho not credited on album u can hear Christine perfect mcvie on album , appears she was still under contract with chicken shackNope. It's the first after Peter Green.
so zesty!!! kirwin and spencer magic
such a great tune ! if u listen carefully u can hear Christine perfect-mcvie on piano and singing even tho she is not credited on lp ie she still under contract with chicken shack at the time / what a gem !
- swèèèèèèt....Same here, but it's me and my daughter. I have nothing past Heroes and she starts with Rumours. I have hopes she will see the light.....
both spencer and kirwin swapping zesty riffs NICE!That's exactly right. Sometimes bands don't necessarily morph into a more improved version. They became more famous and sold a lot of albums but their older stuff is superior in my opinion. Thanks for resurrecting this stuff for us RP. Helps the newer generation or lesser astute learn about the true depth of talent in this group!
I think Peter Green misses Peter Green. He was such a good looking guy with so much going for him before he became ill.
But he's begun playing again as far as I know.
For a while in the 80's or 90's he lived in a village a few miles from here, in Skåne, south Sweden.
That is such an insult to Christine!

The strength of this and most great artists is not to repeat themselves. While Christine's vocals are pretty distinctive, they managed to make most of their compositions diverse. So, don't go looking for another song just like this, but do check out their early work. I think you will be happy you did.
Gotta find the LP in the pile and drag it out again soon.
— rockin it baby —
I vote 10! Because you'd be hard pressed to find such tasty guitar work in anything today.

Nice thread last 6 or 7, Bill.....excellent music....thanks...
Early, original, and fantastic
Are you a mortician? I'm not sure I want to be in the same company as someone who has stiffs ready at hand ;-)
Christine McVie, who would formally join the band for the next album, drew the cover.
