Woman tend to the sick
'Cause there must be something she can do
This heart is broken in two
Tell her it's a case of emergency
There's a patient by the name of Gregory
Night nurse
Only you alone can quench this here thirst
My night nurse, oh gosh
Oh the pain it's getting worse
I don't wanna see no doc
I need attendence from my nurse around the clock
'Cause there's no prescription for me
She's the one, the only remedy
Night nurse
Only you alone can quench this here thirst
My night nurse
Oh the pain it's getting worse
I'm hurt my love
I don't wanna see no doc
I need attendence from my nurse around the clock
'Cause there's no prescription for me
She's the one, the only remedy
Night nurse
Only you alone can quench this here thirst
My night nurse
Oh the pain it's getting worse
I'm hurt my love
And I'm sure
No doctor can cure
Night nurse
Night nurse

I don't think the lyrics are about a professional care giver working a graveyard shift. Night Nurse is popular brand of cough suppressant in the UK.

Or, at least, it was popular before the change to the formula removing pholcodine

It's more likely inspired by off-label uses of the product as a sleep aid, as recreational past time, but does any poem have only one meaning.
Would be a bit weird to refer to a bottle cough medicine as "woman" and "she" and "my love".

Due to the activities of a former house mate, I can never hear reggae without also hearing the bubbling of a bong in the background.
Reductive.

LOL!

Ahhhh. I see your parents made home movies of you when you were a kid. Sooo cute.

... and at the same time my wife worked for the Navy. They had a saying that there were few certainties in life, but one of them was a nurse. Very willing and popular guests to wardroom events. She did not get offended by such attitudes but took them in the way they were intended - there is always a grain of truth in good humour (which we are losing these days). They are caring - and hopefully sharing - in nature. Incidentally she later went on to teach nurses physiology as the grade of nurse went up to that of junior doctor, and the role left behind was filled by carer.
Sister on the other hand was a different beast altogether! She had to be schmoozed by senior ranks...
I really hope so
And that's a good thing!

Ha!

Also, every time 'I Believe in Miracles' comes on in the bar I work in, I can't help but sing in my head 'I believe in Mirror Coils' ... some mattress company's bastardisation...

My favorite night nurse...
That comic book is worth around $100.00 by now. Pretty good tune.
Why will Night Nurse forever lose the man she loves if she helps the stricken gent?
I ask only to distract myself from this...song.
Perhaps NN can prescribe a PSD pill for me.

The old Rhino Records on Westwood Blvd, the best record store I've ever entered. They had a section of discs on the wall with a hand-written sign announcing Staff Picks. That's where I originally heard of Gregory, his Classics album. Black Against Black, an unreal tune. I later got this album, and it remains one of my all-time favorite reggae albums (and I used to collect a LOT of reggae). All the tracks here are worthy of your time.
This man has the smoothest voice of 'em all, it spreads like warm butter.

The man was magic
Amazing rhythm. Anyone who trashes it doesn't understand this man's influence on Jamaican music and how many subsequent artists have 'ridden dis riddim' to a chart topper.
fixed it for you
I will say a prayer for you tonight.
It's a shame that it took his death to get his music on RP but it's still welcome.
Thanks for playing this!
A great and underappreciated voice
