Today's the day she's sworn
To steal what she never could own
And race from this hole she calls home
Now you're at the wheel
Tell me how, how does it feel?
So good to have equalised
To lift up the lids of your eyes
As the miles they disappear
See land begin to clear
Free from the filth and the scum
This American satellite's won
She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall
She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall
See the steeple pine
The hills as old as time
Soon to be put to the test
To be whipped by the winds of the west
Stands on shifting sands
The scales held in her hands
The wind it just whips her and wails
And fills up her brigantine sails
She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall
She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall
What Oasis wanted to sound like!
They wish...
I think this music is just perfect in every sense.
Actually this album is for me, the best ever indie masterpiece. It even has a backwards tune!

Thanks as usual RP!
P.S. The backwards track "Don't Stop" is just as fun.
(Love this track actually, and the DJ transition to this from Papa Wemba is masterful as per usual)

Bloody Hell! Did I just die and accidentally make it to Heaven? Kate Bush ... EMF ... and now the Stone Roses. WTF!!
Welcome to RP :)
The RP cache facility works a dream nowadays. My life has changed forever...
I travelled half way around the world listening to RP at 36 thousand feet!

Can't find a fault with this track - easy 10
I liked a lot of what they've done in the studio but the dude can't hit a single note live. Thanks fuck for autotune eh?
I saw an interview with the singer from the Seahorses, John Squire's band after the Stone Roses. [for the uninitiated, Squire is the guitarist here]. He said Squire would have his on-stage amp so loud it was impossible for the singer to hear himself through the monitors. It's impossible to sing if you can't hear yourself for the ego of the guitarist. Great musician but a bit of dick (actually that goes for Brown too!). Autotune wasn't a thing in 1988 when this was recorded.
The half backwards track Don't Stop is equally fun and will lead some folks to pogo dance.
Bray head, Wicklow Rain belting off sea, This playing Best memory. Leaving and getting soaked with rain after a night of dancing to this and similar. All worth it.ππ»ππ»ππ»
I'm partial to Torc in Killarney. Always a soft rain to go with...

Killiney beach for me, but much the same!

You just made it to Paradise...
I've owned this CD for 31 years and worship numerous songs off of it weekly...
Heaven/ Paradise itΒ΄s the same.
how stoned were we!
This track was recorded in '85 and produced by Martin Hannett.
Bass is provided by Mani and his rikenbacker 4005.
Lead is Jon Squire and his Gretsch Country Gentleman (With humbucker & neck pickups) running through these pedals: Ibanez TS-9 Tube screamer, Ibanez CS-9 stereo-chorus, Fuzz-Face(solo only). Occasionally you'll see him with a strat too depending if it's a live clip!
So in summary the essential elements are: Guitar w/ humbuckers (neck pickup and played by bridge) --> Chorus --> Tubescreamer --> Amp (Fender and/or Mesa Boogie) w/ Reverb in effects loop. Fuzz Face for solos.
Goodluck :)
THAT was an awesome reply! Thanks.

What a time
Just can't keep politics out of anything can we?
Sad, eh? Ironically, this song may not play for another decade. Yet here it is playing just six days later. I know all about carrying on through it all... I AM A WATERFALL.

.....
On a side, saw Steven Wilson in March for the Hand. Cannot. Erase. tour and I have to say that his new band totally blows anything that Porcupine Tree could do. And it took me a long time to come to this realization.
Off-topic
Since then To the Bone has come out. Agreed. Wilson's supporting musicians are all super talented. Adam Holzman.....
And then along comes Mary.
If you have a smartphone, make sure your rentals have bluetooth/carplay/android, etcβ¦
That way you can have your Stone Roses, your Steven Wilson and if you have enough data and the signal to back it up, could listen to RP live on the road!

Dude like uh, the lyrics say She'll carry on through it all, you don't have to go anywhere.

Purple Suede St Vincent boots or wallabees different colour on each foot (swap with BFF) , Baggy dungarees, tie dyed over sized hoodies.
I don't kiss on the first date...
And then another four years after that
Oh No! No! No!
And then another four years after that
Bought this album when it came out Westy, still one of my favorites though it will not, no matter how many times I try to burn it, make it to MP3 for my ipod. So it lives in the CD slot of my vehicle. Sad thing is now I use rentals for work (primary listening time for music) and the stone rosies don't make the trip anymore.
Still a great, timeless song for me. Carry on RP!

EDIT: In part perhaps due to the heavy rotation, 5 plays in the last month.......
Clearly it is popular with RP fans so don't stop on my account.

Isn't it funny how you shine

That song and guitar is the reason for vinyl.
Not anymore ;)
no matter what average is 7.7 sooooo who cares what you

Not anymore ;)
Caught them live and they were just awesome.
Let's hope we hear some new music from them.
That will probably never happen unfortunately.
To many ego's and issues.
Love the Grapes of Wrath.
Don't be sorry, just know you are in the minority by a bunch!

I think I require a dictionary.....

No flaming here, Squire is one of the unmentioned greats, to my ear.

Not yet, but I know exactly what I'm doing after this ends (unless another good song comes on...)
So much nostalgia from this song...that deep wah-wah thing in the interlude used to give me such chills...I never could figure out how to make my guitar do that

Edit: Wow, I've never heard that! I never had the album. Trippy stuff!
Quite appealing, sonically.
Following 'Don't Change' with this is a nice touch on the ol' play list, I must say.

Probably the trash that live on the estate where the girl is escaping from. Their lives revolve around American TV shows.
Ian Brown said in an interview it was about a girl who is fed up with everything, drops an acid and goes to Dover.

I had that reaction, I0m one of those X generationeers.
Any context you can provide to this shock-and-horror look? Did someone tell her she can't have Ian's babies?

Meanwhile the drummer stole the drum lick from the 1970's Price is Right theme.

Wow, Gomez kind of stole that ending on Airstream didn't they?

Interesting. What David Lindley song? I also hear the Beatles "Rain"
GODLIKE then
Quite frankly, I like it!

I think the release date for this album may have been 1989...
everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be dancing buck ass naked all across the world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners... we love this song... love this entire album... love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...

BRILLIANT

Looking forward to seeing the new film about the roses.
Why cut it short?
