Take a look at my body
Look at my hands
There's so much here
That I don't understand

Your face-saving promises
Whispered like prayers
I don't need them

'Cause I've been treated so wrong
I've been treated so long
As if I'm becoming untouchable

Well, contempt loves the silence
It thrives in the dark
With fine winding tendrils
That strangle the heart

They say that promises
Sweeten the blow
But I don't need them
No, I don't need them

I've been treated so wrong
I've been treated so long
As if I'm becoming untouchable

I'm a slow-dying flower
I'm a frost-killing hour
Sweet turning sour
And untouchable

Oh, I need
The darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
Oh, I need this

I need
A lullaby
A kiss goodnight
Angel-sweet love of my life
Oh, I need this

I'm a slow-dying flower
Frost-killing hour
The sweet turning sour
And untouchable

Do you remember the way
That you touched me before?
All the trembling sweetness
I loved and adored?

Your face-saving promises
Whispered like prayers
I don't need them

I need
The darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
I need this

I need
A lullaby
A kiss goodnight
Angel-sweet love of my life
Oh, I need this

Well, is it dark enough?
Can you see me?
Do you want me?
Can you reach me?
Or I'm leaving

Better shut your mouth
And hold your breath
You kiss me now
You catch your death
Oh, I mean this

Oh, I need this

I'm not a big Ms. Merchant fan, but this is quite nice. RP has a way of doing this to my musical opinions. As long as Bill and co. continues to present different sides of artists, I will continue to try to keep an open mind, and ear.

Once in a while I run across an old comment of mine and I think, " why did I write that." Do you know what I mean?
It's a pretty enough song, but anything that uses that incredibly-overused four-chord sequence that seems to find its way into EVERY pop song in the past 30 years... yeah, I can't un-hear it.
The delicious treacle of her voice & music.
In my view some otherwise gorgeous Natalie Merchant songs suffer from production that sounds awfully dated. This one is not one of them. Solid 7.

Because I believe Droidac is interested in my observations...............

4 weeks after my latest observation, and only 11 more ratings, the average has moved up to 7.3.

I believe this is a block of music that was last played 4 weeks prior to my comment.
Because I am #2 comment on this tune with only 25 ratings.
And was #3 on "Bird Dog" by the Everly Bros & also on "That's Not the Issue" by Wilco.
All of which were new to my ears today.
Beautiful song x
