Nice segue from this song to the Dead's "Playing in the Band." The guitar at the beginning of Cold Roses sounds a lot like the Dead to my inexperienced ears.

I think a lot of the negativity is based on his personality - I've heard he's very unreliable and, even by rock star standards, unbearably arrogant. And that's the opinion of some very reasonable, decent people, so...
But, good tunes. I'd love to see him perform, but I've heard he's really unpleasant at concerts (usually very late, rude, etc) so until I hear otherwise, I won't be standing at a concert waiting for him to come out of his dressing room.

i saw him with phil and friends at red rocks, and besides messing up the song lyrics to numerous songs (all while playing one of jerry's guitars...blasphemy!), he gave off a really agro vibe. having said that, i'm still trying to give him a chance because he seems to have some talent in there somewhere. but then bob dylan comes on, and i remember what a truly talented songwriter sounds like, and i give up on him again.
it's quite the dilemma...

almost anything from ryan adams gets a 7 minimum from me. Except HalloweenHead, which is a piece of crap, it gets a 1. love ryan adams. i wonder if its a man crush.

I've liked some of this guy's stuff, but this is unbearable. The raspy routine is way forced here on the verse, and then that awful belly-aching on the chorus... oooooff! I'd better go before it gets worse.
That story is turning into myth.
Saw him at the beginning and end of the Gold tour in San Francisco and they were two of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. Hope he survives his own genius.

Funny thing is he gets really angry if anyone calls him Bryan.... There was a show early in his career when people were yelling for him to play Summer of 69. He stormed off the stage, never to return.

Exactly...he can't touch the emotion Jerry sang with...I don't like a lot of Ryan's stuff, but this definitly is one of the better ones.

Not a particularly good idea, that. I've noticed a tendency for Mr. Adams to mimic a number of different styles. That can be considered virtuosity...or lack of originality.
Jerry & Co. are good to take a lesson from though right?
Truthfully RA is a truly great artist/musician...tortured and emotional with ability to communicate it...like Paul Westerberg or Elliot Smith.
