99.9 Fahrenheit degrees
Stable now, with rising possibilities
It could be normal but it isn't quite
Could make you want to stay awake at night

You seem to me
Like a man
0n the verge of burning
99.9 Fahrenheit degrees

Pale as a candle
And your face is hot
And if I touch you
I might get what you've got

You seem to me
Like a man
On the verge of running
99.9 Fahrenheit degrees

Something cool
Against the skin
Is what you could be
Something cool
Against the skin
Is what you
Could be needing

99.9 Fahrenheit degrees

You seem to me
Like a man
On the verge of burning
99.9 Fahrenheit degrees

Something cool
Against the skin
Is what you could be
Something cool
Against your skin
Is what you
Could be needing

99.9 Fahrenheit degrees [X2]

No.  It's only slightly feverish.

Glad to be of assistance.  Yours truly, Kelvin

You're being sarcastic, aren't you? You think the Fahrenheit is gratuitous? You must be an American...

Scandalous! It would appear being physics-incorrect is the new politically incorrect! 😜

I recommend quarantine and extensive testing for coronavirus for this patient!

Oh, she was, Sasha. Very. In a demure schoolteacher way... {#Hearteyes}

The crowd loved her because she was their age and about to make it big. It was a bit of an odd, show, IIRC: one guy with a big beard sang sea chanteys and garnered enthusiastic applause.
The EELS channel this.. or the other way around.  A duet would be scrumtrulescent!

that's the temperature of the surface of the sun, right ?

I saw her perform at Columbia or Barnard in the early 80s. Wow.

This song always appealed because it's a lot rougher and looser than her determined-songwriter-with-message stuff.

I never turn RP off.  But this set makes we want to sort my sock drawer in silence :)

And here comes Stink.

I think she went to Barnard.  I saw her at Carnegie Hall.  It was '87, I believe.

{#Lol} Probably the same way I do - slap a couple of her CDs in the player and take off on a forgotten highway...

One of your better sets there, Bill.  Four very different songs that all flowed together so nicely.

Yes, and it's driving me crazy.

With her voice, I'll be happy with her saying it any which way she chooses.  Although I believe proper English use "degrees Celsius."
Poetic license! Gotta love it!

She's swapping the normal word order to maintain the meter (the poetic kind, not the SI kind).  Poetic license and all that.
Suzanne who!
Love the bass!

Here is the artwork...

And a more complimentary picture of her than the one below...

37.72 celsius degrees just does not roll off the tongue quite as well.

 Loreweaver wrote:

See Onlineconversions.com   → 37.7°C

To convert Fahrenheit into Celsius, it is necessary to take the degrees in Fahrenheit, to subtract 32 and to multiply the total by 5/9 for Celsius conversion.

while it's not very sporting to add negative comments here on such a great radio station rating system, I have to calls 'em like I hears 'em....and I must say that Suzanne Vega honestly and truly annoys me...and not in that good kind of push-the-boundaries-and-experience-something-new-and-different kind of way, or even in that I-used-to-like-this-song-but-I've-heard-it-too-many-times kind of way. Ohhh no. Her songs have always totally annoyed me....since the 80's....and they continue to deliver. They're trite, boring, repetitive, droning and just plain annoying, and every time I am forced to endure one I want to open my window and yell "I'm annoyed as ?%$!! and I'm not gonna take it any more!".

there, I've said my piece. flame away, SV lovers

And she doesn't sound that hot to me. She has a very adolescent sounding voice that is not sexually suggestive at all. It's just nice and clear and sort of quiet, but with no steaminess to make it really interesting.

OK, nice little ditty, but now I have Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" stuck in my head cuz of the "bammp bammp" part of this song.
Great song writer. Hey Bill, can we hear some Julie Cruise pleeeeasse?
She has the best voice.
Hmm, I was really into her first two discs, and then not so much. This is one of my favorite of her later tunes - 7.

Man, I'm loving the segues this morning!!! Great Job R.P. Suzanne Vega - 99.9F The Pretenders - Space Invader Elvis Costello - Watching The Detectives
Suzanne Vega is one of about 4 women in the whole world whose voice I enjoy... Great album, excellent for driving, and a treat for the whole family.
Sweet, unique, and addictive.

Now why does a song about being 99.9 F sound like Suzanne Vega trying to be cool? Oh, right, because Suzanne Vega is trying to be cool....gag me, please. This understated style is much more interesting when there's some interesting underlying emotion, which is why Tom's Diner and Luka are good songs. and give me more Arctic Monkeys! who are fun because they've so manifestly lost their cool!
not only a fine song, but a wonderful album from a great songwriter...

No. Farenheit is a proper adjective that describes the scale of "degrees" being used to measure temperature. So saying "99.9 Farenheit degrees" is the same grammatic construction as saying "99 red balloons." Constructing it the way you're perhaps more familiar hearing it requires a comma: 99.9 degrees, Farenheit. < /pedantry >

Anything by Suzanne Vega is good. And a BIG thanks to the link to the website. Really excellent stuff there. If you like Vega, go to this site.
For some reason, people tend to slag this album, but I think that this song and "Blood Makes Noise" are a nice departure for her. My favorite song, though is Gypsy. Her voice on that tune is pure honey :)
I dig her. Very cool.
