I was never more happy when our band was submitted for a couple of Grammys (submitted, not nominated).  And we were in the list right above FOW (this album)!

I count myself lucky and blessed to have seen this fabulously talented group play at Shinjuku's Liquid Room not long after this came out...and they were absolutely superb in every way. It was a magical time of my life; I was feeling reborn again in Japan, in the best part of wild and wonderful Tokyo after the abyssal fracture of divorce and family betrayal made being "home" more painful than being on the other side of the planet... Of course, getting a foothold there and digging in to the extent to be able to enjoy it was a huge challenge -- but thanks to RP and the frequent live acts that came my way while there, I felt incredibly confident, inspired, and capable, and stayed for a decade, until the Fukushima debacle -- that no one wants to talk about but is still unfolding, still releasing unimaginable amounts of heat and radiation that are and surely will continue to be deadly. I mourn the loss of Adam Schlesinger, who also made Ivy such a great band, to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I firmly believe that we, thanks to RP, can keep the spirit of his clever, gifted vision alive through the power of music like this! And what a great song this is! It was a favorite of Shoko's and mine; it was her love for it that inspired me to take her with me to see them when they came to play... I'm forever grateful that RP connects to the Best of Everything!

Funny, I was going to post about the Fountains of Wayne retail location being the source of the bands name and then saw this post. I used to live about twelve miles away form there. I had a GF, for a while, who lived just a few minutes away from "Bada Bing"/Satin Dolls. to make another association -I had a tenant for a while who's uncle played Junior on the Sopranos. I think she got her attitude from that show. :-)

I got this CD for my son (age 11) the other day and he loved it. He looked askance at the cover and then I heard him start to play it in his room. An hour later he came downstairs eyes shining with glee. Really great moment being able to share some music.

Gotta agree here. I think these guys are perfectly aware of every sound they borrow, every riff they rip-off. The fact that they do it very well is their real achievement. I wish I could have heard the Tillbrook.

Saw these guys jam at Liquid Room in Shinjuku a couple years ago, and this one had us all spinning pretty good! I really think these guys have such a tongue-in-cheek Zappa-esque, Steely Dan-type wise-ass streak in their lyrics, and I admire that immensely. I can't decide if what you hear in this band is original or actually a "lifting" of some other stuff. I mean, it seems like you've heard this song before, that somebody else wrote it, that your friend mentioned it one time, and that it's not new. But it's okay, nonetheless.
