It doesn't hurt me
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You
It's you and me

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
Say, if I only could, oh

You don't want to hurt me
But see how deep the bullet lies
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts
Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You
It's you and me
It's you and me, you won't be unhappy

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
Say, if I only could, oh

You
It's you and me
It's you and me, you won't be unhappy

Oh come on, baby
Oh come on, darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
Oh come on, angel
Come on, come on, darling
Let's exchange the experience, oh

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
I'd be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems

Say, if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
I'd be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems

Say, if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
And be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems

Say, if I only could
I'd be running up that hill
With no problems

If I only could
I'd be running up that hill
If I only could
I'd be running up that hill

It is kind of a hollow honor in many respects, but she was inducted into the R&R HOF in 2023

91X is still around.  The broadcast tower is still in Mexico.
Stranger Things.. YES
Holy cow, this just followed "Arctic Monkeys — Fireside" which has the same opening drum beat.

Bill are you reading comments or are you seeing the same thing?  What a surprise!
My first girlfriend introduced me to her way back in 1985, and more specifically her first few albums. The Dreaming is still my favourite Kate Bush work, it's a sublime mix of crazy and genius. Then this album came out, it STILL gets better every time I properly listen to it. And seeing her perform live in Hammersmith a few years ago - dreams do come true., kids!

IMOH HELL NO
Goddess!!
Are there bad Kate Bush songs?
Based largely on curiosity about how this song would be used, I binged through all four seasons of Stranger Things, finishing the (very long) final episode of season four last night. Suffice to say, I was not disappointed. Clearly the target demographic is teens, but the series is so well done, I feel it would appeal to all ages and to anyone who appreciates good, and often very dramatic, television. Regarding this song, there is one very intense and emotional scene in season four where the song is used to great effect. I recommend the series to anyone who was on the fence, like me.
Happy New Year, RP peeps!

I worked as a college DJ in the mid-80s. I remember playing this, and a few other Kate Bush tunes. It hasn't gotten old yet.

Fantastic artist
Never watched 'Stranger Things' after the first season, but I sure was glad to read about her finally getting rich off of this old song that I really liked ever since it first came out("91X, The Cutting Edge of Rock").  Good for her.

"Wuthering Heights" is a fantastic song as well, but yes, her songwriting skills had grown in the seven years between those two songs.

Yeah, great story.
Actually hit #1 in several countries; love it!

My 19 year old daughter loves this song now (and Stranger Things of course).

Thanks for posting this. The Meg Myers version and video are impressive.

God like? Gee that equates nicely to the ten rating I just gave this sonf!
Still so good after all these years. What an amazing singer and song writer Kate is. Godlike!

Not being sarcastic here, but isn't it interesting how 4 times in 30 days seems like 10 times?  I always get a reality check looking at the 30 day totals on songs I'm tired of hearing.  Memory by itself is a strange thing.

Great Voice!

I like this, and have the record myself. Plays a bit too often regardless the play history numbers.

I`ve loved this song for almost 40 years now.   there are a few remixes floating around but this is the best.
Just bumped to 10 because it is kate

Exactly! That range on the hook alone is crazy, who writes songs like that? That's a 10 from yo boy
Still Godlike after all these years!
RP is passing the hat. So I've put in some for me, some for you, some for the artists and some for RP.  Cheers.

 beautiful song, voice, lady

got the live stream running in the office, and a downloaded stream running out in the warehouse and both are playing this a few lines off from each other.
That last transition was perfect. From Thievery Corporation’s “Liberation Front, which ends on a punctuated C minor trumpet riff, Blending deftly into the C minor synth pad at the beginning that runs throughout the song. It sounds like an echo that never ends.
I remember this being from Hounds Of Love and it coming out in 1985. I was still living uptown New Orleans and Coyote J Calhoun played it on his new music show.
I recently came upon this very good mash up with Prince... intoxicating.
Such a phenomenal artist...I remember in my younger years when I first heard her voice on the radio (Babooskha) and thought it was an angel singing

This is the kind of song that has to grow on you... in some cases over YEARS. When it came out, I hated it.. but now in recent years I catch my fingers drumming along with that ceaseless beat; bum-badda-bum-badda-badda badda...
Honestly don't get her music but won't shoot her down. Have some pretty eclectic tastes myself.  Must be a "Marmite" type thing.
I know this song since its release and I find it very beautiful and powerful. Not sure I would say the same at first listen. Like all great songs, it takes several plays to really appreciate it. A 9 for me but if you search a 10, c'est ici ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

I just watched it.  She is fantastic!
My probably-unpopular opinion: this isn't a very good song, but many of us (myself excluded) have agreed to say it's good because of nostalgia.

Nice to see all the love for Kate Bush on RP.

She is now a staple of long road trips in the British Columbia interior.

Tusin tuck to the Goldsmiths.
Aside from Wuthering Heights, best Kate song ever!!
Can we please put Kate in the R&R Hall of Fame?

2017 RRHoF nominee...
RP, no matter where we are, your dedication to music is deeply appreciated!
One of the best songs and interpretations of the '80s!
Hearing this song first in 1985 was my introduction to Kate Bush. To this day, it still brings me pleasure to hear it.

Thanks Bill for continuing to give this track some airplay. Admittedly one of my all-time favorite tracks of hers.
Amazing, the power of her voice, and her ability to nuance it with perfection... Her talent for orchestration and atmosphere is incredible!

Music evinces powerful emotions. In this case, powerful enough for me to say how negatively that song affects me.
Plenty of people here hate on songs I love. One of the reasons I come here is for the discourse and differences of opinion. It's not something about which to get offended.

Glad you like the song. It's played here ad nauseous. Why that is so is utterly baffling to me.

The term is ad nauseam and one play per month hardly qualifies. Maybe you should find a station that plays pablum since that's what appears to please you.{#No}
RP, this is why I listen. Where else do I go for a peppering of Bush genius. Keep it up and let those who can't see the value in this music head to Spotify to get their stream of commercially acceptable cream.
And in this case, I like nausea.
ad nauseam

Her voice makes my neighbor's dog bark.
Finally broke down and bought a couple of Kate Bush CDs a while back.

She is brilliant.  An acquired taste though.
Ya know Placebo does a really awesome cover of this. Out of a million covers of this song, it's one of the best imho.
I was told today that I looked like Donald Sutherland in Hunger Games.
Damn!
All along I thought I looked like the Donald Sutherland in the "Hill" video.

Ouch.
Please...enough of this...
"We've got bush!"
A classic song by one of the all time great artists.
Sorry....I don't get it :^ / Sounds like Madonna top 40 crap.
{#Bananajumprope}More of Kate please!
Back in college I did a mashup* of Running Up that Hill with this:

Played it on-air one time, lost the tape, that was it. Got a good response tho. Leave 'em wanting more, I guess.

*before they called them mashups: strictly analog. 12" vinyl + 1/4" tapes. And razor blades.
Everybody in in alien space craft loves this song...
Amazing performance!! Saw Kate in London in Sept. Unbelievable!
This brings me back, thanks!
Who hasn't tried to make at least one deal with God
I loves me a few choice bushy bits
no deals are made...problems will come...sometimes the hills are quite steep, but we must carry on..
For those of us who missed Kate Bush on her comeback tour, this BBC documentary provide some consolation:

Early in her success, Tori wearied of being constantly compared to KB. In this interview on YouTube, she provides a balanced reaction to the comparisons.

i have not seen it because i am listening to rp right now, but i highly suspect tori is obsessed with such a strong female figure as kate bush.  especially since tori revealed her early sexual trauma which left her feeling rather powerless.  she even married a brit!  she has firmly ensconced herself in kates world and that's perfectly fine.  dont understand why shed deny this. especially when its so obvious to people.

Cute...

I always say that I like Kate Bush in small doses.  But I just can't get tired of this song.  I think I could hear it every day and that would be just fine.
a true original, and she spouted so many female singers after her - love her for this passion and drive... great song
I know I'm supposed to like her, but I never get any feeling of lasting quality from her music, or fun or beauty or anything else that makes me sit up and take notice when I hear her. Whatever. My loss, I guess.
Meh.  I've never really seen the big deal about Kate Bush.  I respect her strength and her drive, but her voice has always sounded thin and shrill to me.
