I cry a bit every time I hear this. It's a lovely song.
But I remember the scene in I Am Legend with the virus doctor strangling his soon to be zombie dog.
One of Marley's best.  If this song can't lift your spirits, then nothing can!
We have three children and like to pretend that this song is about our relationship with them...
Love Marley but this is the most worn out reggae record ever.  At least in the US.  Play more eclectic reggae, I know you can.

One of the most famous photos of Marley was him smoking a giant spliff. It was subsequently removed from the photo; never to be seen again.
love
I think I've heard this song in every hostel/pension/cheap hotel I've stayed in, in each of the 45 countries I've visited in my life, not to mention beach bars too.

I mean, I'm pretty sure Mary Jane was there. Maybe not involved, who can say, but with Bob, she was always hanging around...

oh... reggao again
Back in 2014 my husband was very ill for about 18 months. My co-worker sent me this song to play in an email one very sad day at work. The kind of day, where you keep closing your office door because the tears won't stop.
This song always brings me to a place of gratitude, for my co-worker, and most of all for my husband who lived thru an incredibly difficult time.
I will always love this song.
I've had a Day, so this song really hits the spot!
Haha, playing this after Jackson Browne's "reggae" is just cruel.  It's better to a power of at least 3.  Does someone at RP dislike Jackson Browne?
Wow! How I cranked this one up!
Perfect timing! This song was playing just as the sun came out from a previous cloudy, gray morning.
With all that's going on right now, maybe B&R could consider putting this into much heavier rotation. "Cause every little thing gonna be alright." (Well, eventually.)
WHAAAAT??

Always one of my favorite Marley tunes.
My daughter's best friend died from a heroin OD 2 years ago, and his parents carved 3 little birds on his tombstone because he loved this song.  Thinking of you, Tanner!

Listened to this entire album on a pilgrimage to Nine Mile, Jamaica.  A true classic.  My only regret was not discovering Bob when he was still alive.

This song has become a favorite of the supporters of FC Ajax Amsterdam.

I like to think that a life lived well is one full of play, love, compassion and exploration - regardless of who you are or what your situation is.  Maybe the society and/or community and/or family you grew up in have convinced you, against your better innate judgement, that you're not allowed to be a happy, carefree person unless you are generally miserable, overworked, fearful and cynical. Maybe you've suffered a blow in the past that you refuse to let go of and it's been chewing on you from the inside ever since.  Perhaps your chosen profession or your chosen life partner or your chosen inebriate has been slowly poisoning the happy person that you used to be and the passing of the long years has masked the process, such that you don't even know how you got to where you are — where you've forgotten what it means to be really happy — where you're just trying to make it through each day.  So many good people are so damn sad.

You have more power over your own life than you may think you do.  The sun will rise tomorrow, life will go on and you can change.  Sometimes the key is to throw it all away — to stop worrying, to have faith in yourself and in the universe that everything will be alright.  The song repeats its message because it' bears repeating:  Let it go and really live.

well then!  I DID NOT know you had this in you @crogers - and I'm so happy to have found this gem of a comment on a gem of a song sung by a gem of a man.

Your message kind of reminds me of the Johnny Mathis song from 1973 "Life is a Song Worth Singing" - which Teddy Pendergass turned into a #1 R&B (or Soul?) Album in (I think) 1978. I tried adding this to the RP Library and no go....it's one of the more important tracks in my life, both the message and the great instrumentation:

https://youtu.be/OZoXfjkMGuA

Life is a song worth singing

Don't like the way you're living, too bad
Can't change your life 'cause it's out of your hand, so sad
So you sit on your pants and holler
'Cause the world ain't been treating you right
Don't you know you contain the power
To control destiny with your mind
You control what you do with your life
You're a fool if you think you're helpless
Can't change your life 'cause it's out of your hand, so sad, no
You got the power, use it, use it
You got to control destiny with your mind
Right here, right here, right here
You decide what to do with your life, well, well
Life is a song worth singing

Initially rated it 9. But no, it is a 10.
Never knew that was the name of this song.
Already up to 9, should I bump it up to 10.  Bob Marley & the Wailer proves that great music comes from anywhere.  Good to have an open mind about such.  {#Cool}
This song is from 1977, not 1984.  Great song, and timeless.

. . . says someone who rated Grateful Dead a 10.
This is one of the world's all time greatest songs. Sorry to the haters, but few popular songs have survived so long so well.
Always makes me smile.

Tanya Donelly, daughter and friends

June 18, 2010, Joe's Pub, New York City, Tanya Donelly, her daughter Gracie, and Gracie's friends perform a few songs together to celebrate the release of "Sing Me to Sleep - Indie Lullabies" (which I co-produced with Joe Spadaro at American Laundromat Records). Tanya recorded a cover of "Moon River" for the award-winning compilation, and Marley´s Three Little Birds. Video and audio recordings by Thomas Polansky of autolyzeband.com.   ~ on May 1, 2011

(Marley´s Three Little Birds begins at 4:20 min) candy & funny! I think also pleased to B. Marley.

One of my favorite Marley tunes.  I used to sing this to my twins in the NICU.  Now they're in high school.
What a great way to start the day!
....and Life's too short...{#Yes}
Musical perfection.
I was beginning to lose faith in this playlist, but this little piece of gold has cheered me up no end. Musical perfection.
I was worried this mornin', but these three birds told me not to worry and that every little thing's gonna be alright...i feel betta. {#Umbrella}{#Umbrella}{#Umbrella}{#Notworthy}

This one will always get to me.  I remember playing it for my mom the first time she got breast cancer.  (She beat it that time, and had a good 12 year run!)

A very good place to Be

I play this for my 3 daughters, all 3 start jumping, dancing, and singing along.  Life just seems so much better after we all hear this song.  It really puts things back in to perspective.
Timeless and impossible to overexpose; try as they may!{#Lol}

I used to play/sing this song in the morning when I woke my daughter up for school when she was a little. Always guaranteed she would get up with a smile, rather than a frown.

I wonder if there's a reason that I've heard this song twice this morning.  First on Live105 on the way to work and just now...
Words to live by. Thanks Bob.

It was actually from Exodus. But I believe 'Legend' has become more popular than any of the original releases. It is a very good compilation. But there is some magic on those original albums that can't be reproduced in any compilation.

I agree. I just don't see the appeal of reggae. Maybe more drugs would help me appreciate this.
What can someone say about Bob Marley that hasn't been said a million times over already? This collection in particular cannot possibly get worn out; I've listened to it countless times, yet I still want to hear it more and more. You know that question you get every once in awhile, "If you were stranded on a desert island (presumably with a cd player and plenty of batteries), what album would you bring with you"? This would have to top my list.
man.. i wish you guys would play this every day around 3 PM CST... it helps put the work-related stress in perspective!
Needed this one today! Thanks RP!!
