Kinda graphic

I haven't posted anything here in a while , but...   I started working in maximum security. It's fascinating. And bizarre.  In the past few weeks, I've worked on some very notorious / infamous people .  Yesterday I worked on a really cruel, vile serial killer . He tortured and killed women.  Today i ordered a security system for my house.
the floor above my office is the maximum security psych unit. It's quiet up there until about noon and then the guys in there start banging on their cells. And screaming . It's so loud. When I use the ladies room I can hear them screaming through the toilets.

Another recent patient , who has the same disorder as my son only  significantly more severe and with full out psychosis, came in with escorts and shackles and being filmed in case he lost it.

It's just so strange. The serial killer , if there is evil he's the embodiment of it. It's so weird to interact so closely with that. To be in a room with someone like that and talk to him. never forgetting his sociopathy. Aware every second of not being manipulated . Not appearing weak.  In light of all that, having a pretty normal interaction. Just a normal appointment with pure evil. It's so hard to wrap my mind around it.

And its so physically imposing, the prison itself.  I've always sort of been interested in the architecture of old prisons and mental institutions. Prisons designed to inspire fear. The place I work was built in the 1880's. As i walk though the prison I look down a passageway and past the bars are the old stone facade of the original building. There are no windowS.  I usually don't know what time it is Or what the weather is like.  But it's also oddly peaceful to me- the almost total lack of sensory input. .

its just a lot of stuff  to keep in my head at night.

Not sure that is the kind of stuff to keep in your head. Much better to put it out there and discuss it.

Powerful.    Everyone has a story.

For me, it seems so sad that we, for the many, house our mentally ill in prisons.  Just. Sad.
