No this entry is not about weed.

I'm here to simultaneously bitch about, and express my gratitude for, my job.  Prepare for run-on sentences.  Don't judge me I have a iPad with no keyboard.

The BAD:  it's monotonous, I have no administrative time, hours were recently expanded with no increase in staffing,  I'm WAY overtrained for my job duties, the administration sucks, we've had 3 different CEOs in as many years, the clinic administrator is about 30 years behind the times with respect to clinical roles of pharmacists, the new COO just laid off a bunch of people, they cut our benefits down to NOTHING for 6 months right after I returned from maternity leave — wait, what maternity leave?  I meant leave without pay.  I feel like my training and experience are going to waste and I'm afraid not using my clinical skills up to the degree I was trained is going to make me fall behind or get rusty.  About 15 clinicians have quit in the past 10 months, and the patients have a bad entitlement complex (OK not all of them, but wow there are a few real bad apples), and visiting home from here is a two-day one way trip that costs about $2500 for the whole family.

The GOOD:  my direct supervisor is not a micromanager, and is great to work with.  The other folks in my department, for the most part, are great.  I get to coordinate the student clinical clerkships, appy has a decent job here, and I'm getting $35k/year in tax-free student loan repayment for the next three years.

So, in many ways its a soul-sucking work environment. But the monetary benefits are outweighing the bad... For now.  If I didn't have all the student loan debt I wouldn't care about the money.

Appy is sick of hearing me go on about it.  I keep looking at Indeed.com, etc and seeing better jobs, but I guess the grass is always greener.

so anyhow, I know people gots real problems, so I truly try to keep it in perspective.  I'm fortunate to have not just a job, but a well-paying job.  I'm thankful.  I have to keep reminding myself, then I feel like a whiny ass.

I get it. In a lot of ways I've been there.

The only thing I can think of to say is this: draw a line as to where you'll allow this difficult work situation to affect your family, and pay attention. And find an outlet where you can clear that stress out of your life from time to time. And good luck!

Keep your eye out.  Even if you are not ready to make a move now, it doesn't hurt to get an idea of what is out there and track the market.  I have found it is good to put your job in perspective by seeing what else is around.  Seeing what looks like a great job someplace that you wouldn't dream of moving helps clarify both what you consider a great job and what you consider important in choosing location.  Same with money, benefits, etc.  At my last move I figured out that higher pay and maybe a shorter countdown to retirement (along with a shorter countdown to maybe getting laid off) wasn't worth it relative to the old stress and the new adventure.

Not that I keep up on all this very often, myself...

Good luck.

ETA: oh yeah if that many people have quit recently it suggests that there are options out there.

Scott, not quite.  the Wyoming job was an academic faculty appointment.  I am sure it would have been much more professionally fulfilling than this job.

Everybody's got something to whine about. We can take it. {#Meditate}

Virginia sure misses y'all, though, and I for one want to meet that adorable beebee.

Except for the travel time/cost, if you'd taken a job in Wyoming, you'd have similar problems, I'm sure... ;-)

Well hell...those are totally valid reasons to vent. I'm glad you're checking indeed.com.

Life is too short to be chained to something miserable/limiting when there most definitely could be something even better. I'm glad there are things about your job to be grateful for, in the meantime.
