Is it possible that they were just trying to survive instead of drowning? I mean, this is batshit crazy talk. So much so that I thought about posting this in the RightWingNutz thread.

I don't see using the word - when appropriate - as 'diminishing' the power of the word, but it's been used so often, previous to today's realities, that it's power is already diminished. As Lazy8 pointed out in a post while back, its use to describe anyone from Reagan, to Bush, to Hilary Clinton, etc. when inaccurate, has since made it almost trivial when describing people like Stephen Miller and others - who are behaving like Nazis. They just shrug it off like it's some sort of neurotic hyperbole.
