16 Sep 2022  Holy cow, Batman {#Eek}

Underture.  For sure one of my favorite pieces of music ever created. {#Arrowd}

The latest release of Tommy was nice to listen to without any ticks and pops but was sorely lacking on the bottom end.  You spent the whole time imaging what the bass and drums really sounded like.  You simply know better.  I've got 3 different 1st of Tommy including mine from HS.  When I find some time I might build a good set from those.  Regarding the riff from Underture, the 2016 release of Live At Leeds is the entire concert including chatter.  It has the part where they go into Sparks / Amazing Journey and Underture and a whole bunch of other stuff for almost 20 minutes.  It is what you might have heard on the radio overnight in the wee hours back in the day that never got released to us peons.  I got to see the American leg of this tour in Philly at the old Spectrum. What was also interesting about this concert is that they had the stage somewhat left of center going into the corner instead of the center like nearly every other concert arena show I've attended.  It did affect the sound, too.  For anyone that is a real Who fan and loves jams, this version of LAL is incredible.  Vinyl and CD.

Listened to it last night - BIG differences. Especially in the bass prominence (e.g. here at 6:10), which is not a bad thing.
Why the different cover? IIRC it's the Battersea tower rebuilding. Nice reference!

Oh my.  I've been watching for these UHQR releases and haven't looked for awhile.  And the prices went up, too.  Damn. I've got a 1st press of this album I'll have to drag out and spin.  I just read up on the problems with this album and how it was almost never released.  And then the 24 track masters were lost in the fire.  Have to wonder about the source for this UHQR release.  Curious for your thoughts on this after you give it a spin. Cheers !

Becker/Fagen “never” wanted to listen to it after the debacle with using dbx on it - then not being able to decode it properly. I was skeptical as well, but tend to trust the company, so I’ve sold a kidney and we’ll see what happens.

Acoustic Sounds is one of my first stops when looking for something and their own pressings are simply the best on average.  Better than MOFI, imho.  Their customer service is top flight.

I'll get my copy out like I mentioned and send you the rip for you to compare.  I am very curious to know what differences there are.

Worked a bunch extra, so splurged on a sentimental favorite. One of my favorite 8-tracks until my '68 Rambler was broken into. Took that, Topographic Oceans, Deodato's first album, and Zappa's Just Another Band from LA. Ah, high school...

oooh - and the mail person just dropped off this... Nicely made packaging with the box being embossed with King Crimson 1972-1974 on the side. Everything remixed by Steven Wilson & Fripp, and there's an extra disk with Larks' Tongues stuff. USA has been expanded from one disc to two. And there's a nice little booklet with pretty pictures.

Well, it doesn't fade out before the sax solo in Soul Love like my 8-track used to. So far, so good. Punchy bass drum, well defined highs, good separation.

Helps that the Better Half™ is out for the evening, so I can really turn it up.

Freaking out in a moonage daydream, oh yeah.

Oh and good luck with the Bowie SFM lp. They are hit or miss, between the mastering and pressing noise. There are several different pressing all using different masters. It's kinda dodgy. I've got a 1st and a 1980's copy that are not in the nicest shape. I can fix em, but it's a lotta work, so on to the easier things. Oh and the shiftiest pressing operation out there is GZ Media out of the Czech Republic. Universal Music Group uses them a lot and they cut corners and bad quality control.
Mine is this one.

I haven’t even looked at discogs yet. (Need another paycheck before I consider it)
This was Acoustic Sounds.

Acoustic Sounds is the first or second place I always go to when something new comes out, and especially if it is one of their own pressings.  They are very easy to deal with.  So much dirty, noisy crap out there.  Have to return about 50 % of what I get.  Reason I usually by 2 copies of multi albums or box sets with the hope of getting one good copy from 2.

popmarket.com is another place I go to for new vinyl.  Currently more is coming in than going out.  Have to concentrate and find the good stuff to get ready to go out.

Doing this album right now.  Have 2 copies actually, a 1st and a repress.   Basically still a vinyl only album.
