most notably the instrumental pyschofalconry steam punk groove
so if you know anyone that might fit into that weird slice of freaky feathered funk please do post it

Back in November 2001, my wife was running the NY Marathon. We landed in Newark and hopped in one of those painfully cramped airport/hotel shuttle vans with about 8 other people. We wedged ourselves all the way into the back row of seats (we’re polite like that) along with one other woman.

As we approached the city, still hazy and reeking from the smoldering buildings from that day a couple months earlier, we were making all that random small talk you make when sitting on someone’s lap – nothing too particular, mostly how sad and deeply pained we all were from the recent events.

At one point, she mentioned that she was in town to work on an album with a friend of hers.
“That’s awesome! what are you working on?”
“He’s reimagining a whole piece of work based on The Raven”.
“That’s pretty cool. Who are you working with?”
“An old friend, Lou Reed.”

Now, my eyes are bugging out and turn to really look at her now, but no glimmer of recognition.

"May I ask your name?”
“Kate McGarrigle”

Sadly, nothing is clicking for me.

She sighed just a tiny bit and said her son is Rufus Wainwright, just as we pulled up to her hotel.

“Ahhh!, of course!”

I may have said congratulations or something as let her out. She waved and went inside as we pulled away.



Anyway, yes, there’s nothing but talent in them genes and I am a complete buffoon.

This randomly came up on one of my Spotify playlists yesterday, and I swear I've listened to it a dozen times since, trying to reconcile how it can be  simultaneously gorgeous and creepy as hell. Also, the amount of apparently genetic talent in that family tree is unbelievable.

Yeah, it is a nice groove.  The video title was a little confusing at first: the band is named Rinôçérôse - the "Hotel Costes" title is a series of compilation albums put together by French DJ Stéphane Pompougnac.  Some of them are more "house" stuff than I like, but the "loungey" stuff is cool.
