I LOVE Ulta! I buy most of my hair care stuff and some cosmetics there there but for most of my cosmetics, I've started buying from Avon again. Due to the economy, I have a few friends who have started selling it so I take turns supporting them. I like that Avon is cruelty-free and pretty inexpensive. I've ended up with 2 things I wasn't impressed with but they were so inexpensive that I didn't care...I've spent so much money on drug store cosmetics that I haven't liked over the years anyway.

I'm going to check out this Mario stuff but I really don't use any skin care products. I've been blessed with great skin that I don't really have to do anything with.

For anyone who's into sugar scrub, this stuff is AMAZING! They carry it at Ulta but I think different stores carry different flavors. The vanilla bean buttercream is my favorite and I'm not even really a big fan of vanilla flavored/scented stuff. I can't say enough about this product. I've gotten it for 2 friends as birthday gifts and they've both fallen in love with it too.

thanks for the tip!!

my skin was perfect for most of my life, but i developed rosacea in my 30's. i think this was partially a result of working at the renaissance faire in the summers.  exposure to hot weather (like today) nearly every weekend all summer, for 8 years in a row, combined with doing historical cooking demos over a fire pit.

i would get all red in the face, and stay that way all weekend, week after week.....and now, it just never goes away.

i'm also over 45, and so there are changes in my skin because of that, too.

starting young, like you,  with a good skin care regime will keep your skin perfect longer!!

i had a friend a long time ago who came to the chicago area from new york. she swore by MARIO BADESCU skin care products from back home.
she gave me a catalog, and i sent in a skin profile, and they sent me samples of an entire line of skin care products for my specific needs.

i adored the products, and ordered the full size items when i could.

the economy shifted, and later, my personal economy changed entirely, and i had to give them up, and go back to the drug store products.

my skin has not been in as good a shape ever since.

but, today, i was looking through the ULTA catalog, making a list of sale items and cutting coupons, and, much to my delight, MARIO IS NOW AVAILABLE AT ULTA!!!

so, ladies, whenever you have the money to treat yourself to really fine, naturally based skin care, and ulta is having a sale, and you've got the big coupon from the front of the catalog.....try it!  these have always been the best products i have ever used on my skin.

they have diminished break outs, smoothed the surface, and tamed my rosacea.

wooo hooo!

She'll be the post-feminist pilot doctor journalist who kicks the ass of everyone she competes with... and looks BEAUTIFUL doing it. (Which will only make her intimidate them more.)  I don't think there is anything cooler than a smart woman who is not afraid to be pretty.

That's my two cents, is all I'msayin'....

Sort of a weird topic for me to post to but...

My ex recently set up her own makeup site for mineral makeup she makes herself (she's who Pixel the cat lives with now, if you remember her from the "Our Cats" thread).  She just recently started out, but I saw this thread and figured I should give her a bit of exposure, since ya'll seem interested, the products are quality, and I was already here in a non-spamming capacity.  I swear I'm getting no kick-backs, but you might be interested if you dig mineral makeup products.  I think she's sticking to the basics as of the last time I spoke to her (meaning not alot of products).  If even this amount of "advertising" is a bad thing, let me know and I'll delete the post.  Ah, and if you failed to mention that you found out about it from me, it'd be ok too ;)

When she was first starting to consider this, we were still together.  I supported her plan, but still, it was one more thing we argued about, since my degree was actually computers and business (i.e. I know a bit about e-commerce) and she's fiercely independant.  In the end though, I think she came up with a very good plan, and the site looks good (even though its not the one I set up for her, I just noticed she's even got a blog).  It goes without saying that I want her to succeed, so I guess my motives aren't totally pure, but I know the product... I spent months breathing dust from the minerals as she experimented with various stuff etc etc, so I think I can say with reasonable confidence that if you like that sort of make-up, you'll like her's.  Her plan was to do sample sizes of everything so... I think you can try it out cheaply.

I think I have a picture somewhere of me with one of her dustmasks which... embarassing though it is, is also kind of funny... ah I can't find it.  It was a pink "Hello Kitty" dustmask... she was grinding in the same room as I was, and I was working from home so... I finally said "Ok, give me one of the masks already..."

Anyway, no obligations, I just thought I would share the link.

Stardust Cosmetics

Edit:  I may be disqualified from this thread though... despite pleading and begging, I never let her put the stuff on me ;)  So while I "witnessed" it being tried and tested, I myself neither tried, nor tested it.  Unless you count breathing it in for days on end...

That was part of my (de)motivation to not reproduce - with my luck, I'd have a girl, and a girly girl at that, who'd want to be a cheerleader and expect me to be able to give her makeup tips and go clothes shopping, and then wail to all her friends about what a failure I was at being a mother.

For anyone who loves strawberry smell.... I highly recommend the shower cream from LUSH called Yummy Yummy Yummy. It has a really nice honey strawberry scent! It lingers very subtly on the skin. It doesn't lather up that much, so if you expect that, you might not like it. But it is gentle and not drying. I sometimes mix a nickel size blob of another of their shower soaps called 'Happy Hippy' which has a more grapefruit smell. The hubby and I both use that one. It lathers more. I lament all the time that I don't have a bathtub because LUSH has the BEST bath bombs!!
