It requires listening to the whole piece, I think, to become immersed in it so that - at about the 6:00 mark - when they abrupt start running up and down the scales in unison repeatedly and then abruptly stop, hold, and then crank into the main theme again... no lie, I get a little teary eyed at the beauty of it. Oh, but there are TONS of variables in there. That's the fun part. Little tiny shifts in the number of repetitive notes, the meter. It seems like a wave of sameness to people but, if you let it wash over you, you hear the intense delicacy in it.
Same with one of my favorite pieces of music EVAR:
Seriously. This always starts off my Desert Island discs. Close your eyes and just let this happen...
