Fear and Desire - 1952 Frank Silvera - A Stanley Kubrick antiwar film. Actually more like a Twilight Zone episode...

Boxtrolls is on Netflix. The animation is fascinating, the story is sweet. Funny and fun to watch, an obvious morality play but with some more subtle commentary, too. Watch the end credits.

"After

Sort of a hybrid Twilight Zone/Night Gallery but pretty good! The kind of thing Rod Serling might do if he was still around.

Wow! Good thing you were in a car made in the 50s! They don't make 'em like that anymore. And how did you fare? Did you do some time in the hospital? Or a neck brace?

Like a fool I refused medical attention because I felt fine at that point and I was in my 20's etc. It was on the I-10 in Phoenix. Traffic had stopped abruptly and I got stopped ok but the truck behind me didn't. The truck driver wandered off before the cops got there. The driver only needed one more citation to lose his license it turned out. The company he worked for told me to find another car and they'd pay for it. So I got another one just like it and kept the old one for parts. They didn't want it to go to their insurance company I guess. I didn't know enough to hire a lawyer and get more out of them. I only had liability on my car so State Farm didn't get involved. And yes later I literally felt like I'd been hit by a truck.

I thought it would be to dated to enjoy watching it now but thought it was still pretty good. I got rear ended by a Peterbuilt truck like the one in the movie back in the 70's. Fortunately I was driving a 1950 Pontiac but it still smashed it all the way to the back seat. If I'd been in a 71' Valiant I;m sure I'd been killed. The trucking company bought me another 1950 Pontiac. That real life accident made me shy away from semi's for a while.

In fact it was this very car that got squashed...

Take Shelter.

Same director as Mud (Great movie - see this one!). It had a similar feel, but was basically just slow with unlikable characters and a WTF twist ending that seems like it was for an entirely different version of the film. If you do bother, just watch the last 10 minutes you'll get the gist and you'll thank me for the 2 hours of your life you get back.

Hindenburg: The Untold Story

Was very good except they showed the press using a Presto reel to reel tape recorder that didn't exist for another 10 years. Germany had tape recorders from the early 30's but they didn't catch on here until after WWII. The famous reporter recording of the incident was recorded on a portable record recorder.

Amazon Prime Instant:  We've watched several episodes of their original series "Bosch."  It is excellent, and I highly recommend it.
