Showing vs. telling

"All the promises, explanations and asides in the world pale in comparison with what you do.

Too often, we forget that jargon and narrative exist to help shape our actions, not to replace them.

Words keep getting cheaper, which makes action more valuable than ever."

Seth Godin

But I can't think of anything to relate that too except for everything of course.

When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.

Lorsque la Spoliation est devenue le moyen d’existence d’une agglomération d’hommes unis entre eux par le lien social, ils se font bientôt une loi qui la sanctionne, une morale qui la glorifie.

Frédéric Bastiat, 1848

Contemplative and bookish men must of necessity be more quarrelsome than others, because they contend not about matter of fact, nor can determine their controversies by any certain witnesses, nor judges. But as long as they go towards peace, that is Truth, it is no matter which way.

Seems very apt for our political forums- from my favourite poet by the way.  Actually this isn't my favourite quote of his- I like some of the love poems.

I read this as Obama addresses the AFL-CIO. Today, finally, it's Labor's turn.

We occasionally stumble over the truth but most of us pick ourselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.
