I'm running....no, I'm not... wait, I am.  It would be impossible for the Republicans to do more wrong in 9 months of running the House.

Reminder:

list of 147 republicans who voted not to certify the election

Jordan is in the list. He should not be speaker, third in line to the presidency. He really shouldn't be in Congress. He also epitomizes what is wrong with the state of our politics.

We agree.  He is not the only one.  He is certainly one of many examples.

Meanwhile, we're still adrift with no shore in sight.

And just to be clear, I have no use for Gaetz and would like to know what is wrong with a democrat or two voting for a repub speaker in order to have a moment where people come together for the good of the country ?

But I am also not stupid enough to think that a democrat would even think of breaking rank and do something for the good of the country instead of only the party.  McCarthy did and look what it got him.

The Republicans don't like their own choices... why don't a few of them do what's best for the country and vote for Hakeem Jeffries?

Well you're already putting all the blame on the republicans so why can't I blame Biden ?

The Democrats did vote with Gaetz and the other 7 Republicans to remove McCarthy on the motion of Gaetz to vacate the speaker. Gaetz did say before the vote that if enough Democrats voted to keep McCarthy, that would prove that McCarthy was not the Speaker for the Republicans. And he also said he likely would keep bringing a motion to vacate virtually every day if McCarthy survived. So, I would say Gaetz was fired up before and regardless of the Democrats voting to remove McCarthy.

I have heard the possibility of bringing in Gingrich.

But let us not forget that the democrats voted unanimously to remove McCarthy after he stuck his neck out for the good of the country to get a bill done to keep the country open for another 45 days (IIRC) and that is what got Gaetz, et al all fired up.

So I also hold the democrats equally responsible for this problem.

Now we got nothing and those 45 days are ticking away with all kinds of shit hitting the fan.

Jim Jordan’s past as a bomb thrower does not bode well for a tenure as Speaker. And this is not just about blocking Jordan. If Jordan were to ascend to speaker, that would serve to further embolden the Matt Gaetz types, those who are ideologues largely uninterested in governing, focusing instead on getting national attention and raising funds by tossing divisive red meat. This could be a pivotal moment. We can hope. Not holding my breath on that, but we do need to break out of this downward spiral — somehow.

So what's interesting is that Republicans have literally painted themselves into a corner that many of them are going to get hammered on leading up to next years elections.

Do you vote for a January 6, stolen election, MAGA conspiracy supporter to lead a branch of government... or do you reinforce the fact that even the Republican Party can't agree on anything amongst themselves?

Either way... unless you're from a safe, hard-right district... you should expect a lot of questions that you're not going to like the answers to next summer and fall.

Cynically, if he were to become Speaker, I think the likelihood of an assassination attempt on both the P and VP would become much higher.

Also, if he were in that Speaker role, does anyone expect anything useful for the nation to be done? I just see him as a bully blowhard without any reality to back him up. And, in the long run, doesn’t that mean he’s just gonna waste everyone’s time and - like Trump - let the country fall into more ungoverned chaos (which is, of course, the Democrats’ fault)

"Propriety" is an ambiguous and ever-shifting concept, which makes it perfect for Republicans looking for a pretext to deny the legitmacy of Democrats. They're desperate to say that Fetterman doesn't belong, and will grab onto any excuse, even something as dumb as an oversized hoodie. But, of course, the real reason Republicans don't want Fetterman around is because they don't think his voters had a right to choose him in the first place.
