I'm fretting about our flight 5 weeks from now...
It's like the other airports affected, sometime open, sometimes closed. It all depends on where the ash cloud is and which way the wind is blowing. Lucking this time of the year the winds blow in from the south meaning the ash cloud disappears northwards and away from most airspace. There is still some disruption, namely Spain last week and some Irish flights but generally things have improved with little delay in flights. 5 weeks time we will supposed to be in the height of summer here meaning those southerly winds are much more frequest so therefore increasing your chances of travel. Good luck.

The only trouble with this statement is that the last eruption bears virtually no correlation to the current one (true for most volcanoes except those that go off like clockwork). Apart from a brief hiatus between the Fimmvorduhals vent closing and the crater vent opening, it has been erupting non-stop for three months now and there is no sign of it stopping yet. It might stop tomorrow, it might go on for another 2000 years.

rosedraws wrote:Yeah. Amsterdam via Reykjavik. We actually booked the trip the day the volcano started. We were like, "hey, did you hear about the volcano?" "yeah, that's really something, eh?" I figured it was something that happened there all the time, like in Hawaii. It's good to know the airport's at least sometimes open. Hope eternal springing and all that, I think I read that the last time this happened, it was on and off for 30 months.
