"Military analysts said the documents appear to have been modified in certain parts from their original format, overstating American estimates of Ukrainian war dead and understating estimates of Russian troops killed."
A few more dead here and a few less dead there. Kinda like Argentina fudging the GDP numbers, no?
Leaked documents expose US-NATO Ukraine war plans Classified Pentagon documents containing information about US and NATO plans for a Ukrainian offensive and key details of the ongoing war have leaked. And the Biden administration is reportedly demanding they be scrubbed from the internet. Is there a hidden agenda behind the leak?
âHold on a minute,â I hear you say. What about the critical role that U.S. diplomacy played in organizing the Western response to Russiaâs illegal invasion of Ukraine, not to mention those lopsided United Nations General Assembly votes condemning Moscowâs actions? Doesnât that prove that America is back and its diplomats are doing their jobs with consummate skill?
Yes and no. On one hand, Biden and his team have led a coordinated Western response to the invasion, and this hasnât always been easy. But it ainât over till itâs over, and the ultimate result of this effort is uncertain. The cruel reality is that a protracted war that ends with Russia in control of some or all of the Donbass and Ukraine depopulated and heavily damaged will not look like a grand foreign-policy achievement. We all hope that does not happen, but it is certainly not an outcome one can rule out.
The sad fact is that the Biden administration has done an excellent job of responding to a problem that was at least partly of its own making. The roots of the Ukraine war predate Bidenâs inauguration, but neither Biden nor Blinken saw the war coming soon enough. They did not recognize that Russia saw the trends in Ukraine as an existential threat, nor did they do everything they could have to head the war off. U.S. officials (both past and present) have gone to great lengths to deny that U.S. or Western policy played any role whatsoever in causing this tragedy, but a dispassionate look at the evidenceâsuch as the recent account by British historian Geoffrey Roberts in the Journal of Military and Strategic Studiesâshows otherwise. As Iâve put it before, âPutin is directly responsible for the war, but the West is not blameless.â
We will probably never know if the war could have been avoided had the United States and its European allies made a more serious and creative attempt to address Russiaâs security concerns, and dropped their stubborn insistence that Ukraine would one day join NATO. Iâm not letting Russia off the hook for starting a preventive war (an illegal act under international law) or for the way it has waged it. But when one thinks about the consequences of the war for the worldâand for Ukraine most of allâthe United Statesâ failure to do everything within reason to head it off deserves more critical scrutiny than it has received to date.
You seem to be dodging the question. Russia'strade balance 1990 to 2020 though I am sure you are already aware of this.
Russia, like Australia, has had a very cozy time of it, selling off its natural resources. That is what I mean by creaming it. But that is not the point I was making. The point is, Russia has totally infiltrated the highest levels of the German government. Maybe the German's were thinking that was the best way to contain Russia. Whatever it was, the upper echelons of government on both sides were totally in cahoots with each other. The very strategy you claim to have been the better course rather than this alleged aggressive NATO expansion is what the actual strategy was.. lived and breathed.. by most of the European Union and most of all by Germany.
So if this strategy of yours was so damn clever, why didn't this keep the peace?

Listen up NoEnzo... I am a well socialized freemarket economist who, contrary to you, pretends to understand something about data, measurement and economics. Trade balance rhetoric is typically for the 'little people'.
Cozy time? What is wrong with you man? Selling off? Are you a Man of the People like a MAGA Republican?
"Totally infiltrated"? Now you are making up stuff and lying like a typical American.

So if this strategy of yours was so damn clever, why didn't this keep the peace? Hey NoEnzo... you just got an A+ from Herr Joseph Goebbels.
My damn clever strategy was to avoid granting NATO membership to the former members of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact. My strategy was to slowly, patiently co-opt Russia into the western fold which would have created sustainable peace and security in eastern Europe and would have created sustainable economic and security benefits for the USA and other rich western nations.
In the meantime, please note that many countries in Europe have been economically hammered while the USA has radically increased LNG exports to Europe. Canada has also indirectly benefited from the those hugely expensive LNG imports, viewed from the European consumer perspective.
I find it odd that you live in Germany, yet you seem to really not care about the welfare of Germans and other Europeans.
For the record, I view Russia as a reliable source of natural gas and other raw material imports from the European perspective. It would be foolish for Europe to say no to Russian energy sources going forward, especially natural gas.
But if you and others want to benefit special interests in Canada and the USA going forward, please feel free. This will not be the first nor the last time that Europe has suffered from US-lead foreign policy.

Vasquez is the latest. Idiot boy/bicycle enthusiast 'Ukrainian Canadian Volunteer' was laughable and outed himself fast. There is a clown on YouTube collecting donations - he rambled through a 2-3 hr daily map overview using the work of others early on and up to some time recently. Then he earned a copyright strike and now all his long-winded vids are down.
Grifters everywhere.
Reminds me a bit of the Spanish civil war that attracted all kinds of outcasts. Guess it is part and parcel of radical change. Everything is in flux.
yep, there's been some dodgy stuff happening among some of the international volunteers. That is true.
