I heard overnight that a Ukrainian outfit has almost surrounded a large Russian position. Should they succeed, would Putin take out everyone, including his own to prevent a surrender and victory of some sort ? Based on his mass destruction so far, I believe that he would. But how would that play at home for him ?

That's wonderful to hear. If you haven't already, check out this page (in various languages Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, German, English) for the formalities. As I understand it you should be able to apply for asylum under §24 AufenthG without any great complication and be able to get assistance and work in Germany. My neighbour is a judge in Social Law if you need any help understanding German legalese I can always ask him and I'm sure he'd be happy to help. Check out your private messages as well.
