All I can say for sure is you are very good at starting, in my opinion, lame threads but to each his own. I'm through here.{#Cheers}

I meant that that is what white people were buying. (Edit: add Springsteen to the list.) Bowie's Let's Dance was funky but he didn't really sell big ever. I suppose this question can be settled by sales figures. What were the biggest funk records in the 80's?

Wow, just wow. Did the BBc tell you this or did you go out and take a poll? How exactly did you come up with that idea?

I remember.

funk and disco aren't the same. same roots, some crossovers, but not the same.
the backlash was against mass produced bad disco and the constant overplay. most of us got over it a long time ago
there was plenty of white people on the dance floor. I remember. I was one of them.

Why is this a white and black issue for you? Do you think that white people don't like funk? Maybe your definition of funk is different from mine...Well, obviously it is judging from some of the stuff you post in this thread...Sorry I won't watch your videos. I guess I'm too old to care to since I've been into funk since the 60's and don't need a video to tell me about some bullshit war against it. Thanks just the same.{#Cheers}

Popular black musicians (especially Nile Rodgers of Chic) are what disco had to do with funk. Funk was not collateral damage of "disco sucks," all black music was targeted. Here are some white Americans noting that it is now legal to play funk guitar again. (Edit: When the guitar master admits "funky man I am," that is a race joke, not a music joke. They are celebrating the funk embargo being lifted like it was a Cuban cigar.)

It was a movement called "disco sucks"  triggered by a televised stunt at a baseball game in 1979 that was a kind of disk burning. WTF does disco have to do with funk? Funk has been around forever and posed no threat to rock...That is a bunch of crap. And no thanks I'll pass on the bbc's take on things.

Just my opinion of course.
