I'm guessing that the NSA won't be part of the shutdown. 

I've lived through a bunch of these over the last 40+ years of my work life, both in the military and as a DoD civilian employee.  And every one of them has been over budget issues. 
Nothing new to see here, just different (in most cases) faces in the same seats of power.  And after the dust settles, it will be the same as it ever was, same as it ever was......

Yes!  The process is terribly flawed.  An overhaul is needed for the election process, the tax code, the entire health care and pharmaceutical industries....this could go on for a while.

Is what it is.  This isn't the first time this has happened.  We survived the last shutdown, we will survive this one.

If we're going to wait to see who blinks first, it'll be a long wait because both sides have had too many Botox injections making blinking nearly impossible.

True, but the two-party campaign process practically ensures only the most venal, duplicitous, money-grubbing candidates win election.

We voted for this government. We have received the government we asked for.

it'd be nice if they would shut down the dept of war

if we're honest we see where political priorities lie

why would one human being regardless of a made up title, fancy hat or strange costume think that they have a higher claim on another person's life?

especially innocent, peaceful men women and children

and i'm forced to pay for this murder or the those guns will come knocking on my door

this is quite troubling to me

wtf are we doing?

human rights aren't an option given or granted by those man gods who claim special authority

why can't we see this?

and why don't speak about it or shut it down?

we zip it up lest we get put on a political list or have some bureaucrat spy on us and put it all in a file to leverage against us later

just look at the people who come out with the truth...

how are they treated?

can we participate in the death and destruction and honestly look into the mirror and make a moral claim?

what stories do we tell ourselves to justify the horrors we're responsible for?

we're all good people right?

some time ago i put my stories (some may call them reasons) on paper and then i web searched to view and read about the actual annihilation

it didn't take long for me to question the validity of my own reasons...

True - but shouldn't the people clean house?  These public servants have failed to perform the required duties of the position.  There are people better qualified to do the work waiting to take their jobs.

Kurt! That is the first avatar change I've seen on you since forever! And congrats to your Indians, hope they take care of those pesky Sox. It would be cool to have an Indians-Pirates series. Never happen, but it would still be cool. 

Anyway ...  the frustrating thing here is that ACA is established law. It's unprecedented for a minority bloc in any Congress to attempt to thwart law by not funding it. All of the arguments advanced by the GOP strike me as disingenuous or rhetorical: it's too expensive, Americans don't want it, it will kill jobs or the economy, it was passed through procedural tricks, etc. 

There was plenty of time for both houses to resolve differences. To wait until the last minute and hold hostage the federal budget in the hopes that the proponents will fold is, to me, reckless.

So yes, I think this one will drag on for awhile.
