My friends back east (federal employees) just texted me a picture of them all sitting in our favorite pub. The caption read: "Government employees on furlough." That's where I'd be, if I were them!

Our elections are simply demonstrations of shameless pandering with the best promises in order to get votes.
Who is willing to say what people want to hear most wins. Nearly all the promises are impossible to keep before made.
Then comes Madison Avenue and the package is presented for consumption.
And we get what we vote for ... nothing real.
And so it goes ...

Bingo! And until we start speaking and proceeding with that narrative, then we will be getting nowhere. Our entire government is a colossal waste of time until they roll their sleeves up and face the truth and stop all of this political posturing and faux bills that do not really address the core problems, but nevertheless come with a huge price tag passed on to our doomed descendants.

Anyway ... the frustrating thing here is that ACA is established law. It's unprecedented for a minority bloc in any Congress to attempt to thwart law by not funding it. All of the arguments advanced by the GOP strike me as disingenuous or rhetorical: it's too expensive, Americans don't want it, it will kill jobs or the economy, it was passed through procedural tricks, etc.
There was plenty of time for both houses to resolve differences. To wait until the last minute and hold hostage the federal budget in the hopes that the proponents will fold is, to me, reckless.
So yes, I think this one will drag on for awhile.
Edit - term limits - roger that.
Yeah a Pirates / Indians series would be awesome. Can't disagree with your summary. Just want to correct you on the Budget though. We haven't passed one in over 4 years. We have been operating on CR's the entire tenure of you know who. The ACA is a train wreck, no matter how you look at it. Too many waivers and special favors to special interests. It perhaps should be allowed to be stripped of all these exemptions and waivers subsequent to its passage and come into effect as written so we can all find out exactly what it really is. As we sit here, it keeps changing due to executive changes, not through the legislative process. To allow that to continue will prevent us from ever getting it right.

Absolutely. But we / they won't. Term limits. The need for them can no longer be ignored.

just a few random "shut down" thoughts...
it'd be nice if they would shut down the dept of war
if we're honest we see where political priorities lie
why would one human being regardless of a made up title, fancy hat or strange costume think that they have a higher claim on another person's life?
especially innocent, peaceful men women and children
and i'm forced to pay for this murder or the those guns will come knocking on my door
this is quite troubling to me
wtf are we doing?
human rights aren't an option given or granted by those man gods who claim special authority
why can't we see this?
and why don't speak about it or shut it down?
we zip it up lest we get put on a political list or have some bureaucrat spy on us and put it all in a file to leverage against us later
just look at the people who come out with the truth...
how are they treated?
can we participate in the death and destruction and honestly look into the mirror and make a moral claim?
what stories do we tell ourselves to justify the horrors we're responsible for?
we're all good people right?
some time ago i put my stories (some may call them reasons) on paper and then i web searched to view and read about the actual annihilation
it didn't take long for me to question the validity of my own reasons...
and as always i encourage you to open your pie hole for peace

Well, if the PEOPLE are not out in the streets protesting this mess, then I guess we got what we deserve. This entire Congress should be out on it's collective ass as soon as possible. If we don't put our money where our mouth is, what do we expect? We can't sit around and wait for someone else to fix it! Take to the streets - or stfu!
