Nobody with $24M wants to look at $500k houses when they go out to pick up the mail.  Here is an example of what I mean.  The price history doesn't include a period when the "original" owner (the guy who put the entire thing together as it now stands) wanted $6.5M.  At some point, most people want privacy and quiet for that kind of money.

my grandparents had one as a second home for a while but it was long gone before I came around. I thinks some moderately successful rocker owned it for a while. I've only seen a couple of pictures that didn't really catch the whole thing.

That doesn't seem like an outrageous sum of money, way, way more than I can afford but not in the millions.  I'm not really familiar with areas of the UK; is Brixham or Devon considered upscale or "fancy"?
