Inherit the Wind used to be on Netflix streaming, but not now. It's a great movie. Gene Kelly is in there too!

Netflix rotates the movies thare streamed, eventually it will come back to streaming you just need to check periodically.

I also found out that it's not on this month's TCM schedule, so I'll have to add it to my DVD queue!

He is also great in To Have and Have Not with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.  Bogart and Bacall met on the movie set, fell in love and got married in Ohio.

They got married at a B&B lodge near Mansfield that is now a state park.  For those of you in Columbus, legendary channel 4 sports anchor Jimmy Crum was one of the few members of the press corps present at that wedding.

Note in 'Best Years', Hoagie Carmichael is the piano player who teaches Homer some tunes. He was a fine actor, and his musical skills really helped sell it. Also see 'To Have and Have Not' for more of his work.

Oh yeah, he was great in 'The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit', as the archetype of a corporate executive. World-weary and trapped by his career choices, against Greg Peck's character choosing family over business. Sort of in the same vein as 'Best Years', the kind of movie that chokes you up a little.

The same Hoagie Carmichael that wrote the classic 'Stardust', made famous by Nat King Cole.

I have the DVD of 'Best Years', but I still watch it whenever it is on TV.  Great movie and it led me to find other movies with Fredric March and Dana Andrews.

I just checked his bio on Wikipedia. I didn't know he had won so many Academy awards. I guess he's best known for his role in Best Years of Our Lives — what a great a movie about people adjusting to every day life after fighting in WW II.

I love this month too. The films are guaranteed to be good. I don't think it was during Oscar month last year, but I discovered the genius of Fredric March in the past year. Just incredible, the depth and breadth of his career.

This is my favorite month of programming on TCM. The station is showing Oscar-nominated films from virtually every awards category. Yesterday morning before I had to go to work, I tuned into Captains Courageous based on the Rudyard Kipling story. It was quite enjoyable, and it was a trip to see a young Spencer Tracy (who won best actor) and an even younger Mickey Rooney (what was he, about 15 when it was filmed?). Fredrick Bartholomew was also excellent as the rich brat who becomes Tracy's pal over the course of a few months on the fishing boat.

I'll be checking the TCM listings regularly this month and will no doubt have to make room on my DVR to record some of these movies. Has anybody else "discovered" a movie they had yet to see before this month's programming?
