Oh, man!  I hated that "Chevy Van" song; I had almost exorcised from my memory.  I liked ABBA, though - I even saw them in concert during their only North American tour.

I love that song!

it has a Weird New Jersey Connection
Spinster Mary Ellis was the inspiration for the song. Her grave was preserved when a flea market and then a shopping center was built on the land.

I could usually refrain from changing the radio station when The Carpenters came on, but I remember immediately changing the station when hearing the opening vocals to Rita Coolidge's zombie-like cover of "Higher and Higher" - a song originally recorded in a rockin', up-tempo style by Jackie Wilson.  By that time, I was usually listening to FM radio more often, though.

Oh please, I was there for it! Their amazing string of hits pretty much started in 1970 if I recall correctly, I was 10 living in Phoenix and fell asleep with my AM radio every night. I preferred BST, Santana, The Doors, Three Dog Night...the 'harder' stuff that was thrown into the mix on AM in those days.

Yeah, Leon I guess was precognizant of the awesomeness that was Karen Carpenter, sorry if I presented myself as thinking about her in any other way.

 There is sorta OK, and sorta awesome, and then there is that kind of unreal stuff awesome. She had it. {#Yes}
