First Listen: Mac McCaughan, ‘Non-Believers’
"Indie rock was conceived to be nondescript, but few indie legends come as dressed down as Mac McCaughan. For 25 years, the Superchunk frontman and Merge Records co-founder has quietly made some of the loudest pop in history, meanwhile keeping his profile inversely proportional to his influence on the indie world at large. This is the man, after all, who gave Kurt Cobain a run for his money in the early ’90s when it came to blisteringly distorted, Gen-X anthems — despite being nowhere near as popular — and who gave Arcade Fire its momentous start on Merge a decade later. He’s also released numerous solo albums under the name Portastatic, a move that gave him another outlet as a prolific singer-songwriter while keeping his name off the marquee..."

So my first cousin once removed and his band are getting ready to put out a new cd. If anyone is so inclined to pledge support here's the link. And thanks if you do.

Oh, here's their webpage too. {#Music}

A minute's worth of amusing setup then the song kicks in. Would be popular on RP, I think, and would have the added bonus of getting Ted Leo on RP...

There is a new band in town! They are called Temples and were formed in my home town of Kettering in England in 2012 and they are already on a World tour.

Cited by both Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher as the best new band in Britain!

This Summer they are appearing at these festivals:

Glastonbury
Reading
Leeds
Bestival
Festival No.6

which are THE festivals in the UK!

I have no vested interest but they remind me of the music I was listening to 40 years ago, with a modern twist. Watch them on YouTube:  http://youtu.be/tUGEnXz4EG8 they would be a great addition to the RP playlist.

All the best,

John and Jill, residing in PARADISE Lane

I worked with Allie Thompson at a spa in California - now she is really going places as a singer/songwriter/musician! This is fantastic.

(that's not her on the cover—just a model)

Bingham is excellent.  I haven't listened to much of his more recent stuff, but his first two albums are about as good as they come...

I just gave it a spin - she's turned out to be one of those genre-defying Artists with the capital A, and a fantastic lyricist.  Really good (and sometimes bizarre) stuff.

Edit:  Whoops, didn't see Lazy's post from earlier.  My apologies for the redundancy.  Ahh, well...I'm leaving this here.

I liked them better when I thought they were English.

Some of the National's stuff is pretty ho hum and some of it thrills me. It's worth spending some time with.
