I've always thought what Hawkins is saying, to me it just makes logical sense. We had better hope no one is listening!

There's always the chance that Aliens will understand the necessity of NOT destroying an ecosystem for profit or personal gain. After all they probably don't have a widely-published book telling them that God made the planet for them to use up as they wish.
