I don't have HBO either and this is something I think I could actually get in to.  My pal Kermit is in it.  He plays himself.

Treme isn't just the name of the new HBO series about post-Katrina New Orleans. It's a real neighborhood in the city-and one that is going through changes. Treme (pronounced to rhyme with "away") is the oldest African-American neighborhood in the United States, dating back to the late 18th century. Today, it is undergoing urban renewal and gentrification. Here are some of the spots that you may encounter on the TV show-as well as some other Treme landmarks worth seeing if you pay a visit.

BluEyes & I really like this show.  It is easily one of the most original ideas for a show currently on the air.  Nothing at all like the CSI: SUV, Miami, New York, East Buttlash, blah, blah, blah and similar ilk.

"Strippers are moving in my neighborhood,
Strippers are moving in my neighborhood.
You can call that gentrification,
I'm gonna call it good."

I think it's the wrongness, the abandonment of so many folks who counted on others to be there, in some degree. And they weren't. The President flew over and looked down. The local government fought amongst themselves while buses languished in a parking lot - and people needed a way out. There were dead people pushed to the side, a sheet thrown over their gramma's body in a wheelchair in the hot sun.

This is one of the things that makes me stop short when Libertarians talk about not wanting the government in their affairs. Post-levee-breach New Orleans is what it looks like when you don't have a backup plan.

I lived in the first suburb out of Orleans parish for 9 and a half of the past 11 years...It is not somewhere I felt comfortable...Enjoyed some Mardis Gras the first couple of years but stopped going and did not cross the line but once to get a test done before my surgery...There is a complete disregard for human life and innocent people are killed there every day...The not so innocent are killed there every night...All my contracting construction work was in Orleans for the first year and a half...Takes a special kind of person to be able to blend into the Orleans persona and survive. Don't have HBO so haven't watched yet but I'm looking forward to seeing it soon. I hope they are doing the Big Easy in a kind light.
