We are having an election party (inevitably!). Although due to the revision season we will also have squashed based alternatives to drink (election drinking game - drink every time your party gets a seat, or some variation)...

First attempt to post from mobile device - crossing my fingers it'll actually work.

This an extremely wordy but I thought insightful blog post from Stephen Fry: http://www.stephenfry.com/2010/05/04/how-i-will-vote/

Sorry for the long url but it has taken me forever to get this far and I simply don't have the motivation to figure out how to do it correctly.

Fry takes his time making his points - and most of you are familiar enough with my opinions to know that I don't agree with all of them - but I found it worth wading through. Especially the parts about participating in the process and differentiating between people and parties.

OK this was much too excruciating - won't be attempting another post today even though I'm excited to talk about my garden. Hope everyone has a lovely day! I'm off for a calming cup of tea.

2 days to go. Most likely to be a hung parliament (cue endless jokes in the tabloid press), could just be a small Tory majority. I fear that yet again I will not get the candidate that I voted for representing me (but just maybe...........). There are hints that the Tories are planning to govern even with a minority in parliament rather than forming an alliance- which should be interesting.

Remember that there are about 650 seats up for grabs- if any party hits 326 seats then we have an outright winner and that then the queen asks the leader of that party to form the next government.

My gramps used to work high up in the civil service. My mum strongly remembers not knowing him all that well, and sitting watching "yes minister" with him. Towards the end of the episode he started laughing and then said "I though nobody knew about that!"
