Dog Day - http://www.dogdaymusic.com/ Another band out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here's what Now Magazine said about them in a recent review:

"Jangly, melodic guitars dominate the dour sonic landscape (think the Stone Roses, the Smiths and Editors, with a touch of Broken Social Scene), while guitarist Seth Smith and Nancy Urich trade off solid boy-girl vocals. These indie rockers have no trouble writing hooks, but where these kids really excel is nailing verse-chorus transitions – a true test of good songwriting best evident on opener Happiness, Youth Of Destruction and Saturday Night."

I saw Meghan Smith backing up Ron Sexsmith last year. Really liked her stuff. One of the regulars here (can't remember who) grew up next door to her and still lives in the same neighbourhood as her parents.

Meaghan is definitely talented, but shes so sweet she's almost Disneyesque. I mean, when you go to her website a cute animated bird flies around. Still, she can write and sing and her looks aren't going to hurt her; she's definitely someone to keep an eye on.

I apologize if this topic has been previously created, I went back through 10 pages and I didn't see it and I didn't have the time to go back through all 26 pages. I'd like this topic to be for good local artists who you like and who may have a regional following but who aren't well known outside of their home state, or province, or even town. This is also for artists who don't have any songs on the general RP playlist.

I'm going to start with Meaghan Smith. She's a singer/songwriter currently out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has recently been signed by Sire Records and she does a lot of touring so you may have seen her or heard of her. Here's her website:

Constantines from Toronto. http://www.arts-crafts.ca/constantines/

“Once the Constantines start heading off-stage, the “woo hoos” start going off like air-raid sirens. No one’s saying it, but everyone’s thinking it: we have something to believe in again. The Constantines are the children of Fugazi, stepbrothers to Make-Up and Trail of Dead, the grand-kids of Springsteen and Strummer. They call what they do soul music, not because of what it sounds like, but where it hits you.” – EYE Weekly

Well...

There's Ross Rice In Woodstock, NY. Power Pop, in a Todd Rundgren, Alex Chilton, Stevie Wonder vein

Asheville, NC sports a lot of local music but these are the standouts to me:
Toubab Krewe and Afromotive are both bands fusing Afopop with western music.
Jar-e is a tight, and fairly smooth outfit combining Samba, Hip Hop and old school Soul.

Then, back home, In Memphis, TN there are:
The City Champs - Old-school Boogaloo
Klaudia & Rico - singer/songwriter combo
FreeWorld - Funk, Rock, Soul, Jazz (think The Neville Brothers+The Grateful Dead+The Memphis Horns)
