I quit watching tv over 8 years ago because i live in a small town with limited service. Then the cable companies came alone and tried to charge me electric rates for a basic connection. So I tole 'em all to fuck right off.

Eye on the TV
'cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be

Like:
"Killed by the husband" ...
"Drowned by the ocean" ...
"Shot by his own son" ...
"She used a poison in his tea,
Then (she) kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story
It's no fun til someone dies.

Don't look me at like I am a monster
Frown out your one face, but with the other (you)
Stare like a junkie into the TV
Stare like a zombie while the mother holds her child,
Watches him die,
Hands to the sky cryin "why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die from a distance
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
You all need it too - don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'
Neither the brave nor bold
Nor brightest of stories told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'

I need to watch things die from a good safe distance
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain fallin' down
Drum on grave and ground

Part vampire, part warrior,
Carnivore and voyeur
Stare at the transmittal.
Sing to the death rattle.

La, la, la, la, la, la, la-lie (x4)

Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men.
But pull your head on out (of) your hippie haze
And give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been ...

We all feed on tragedy.
It's like blood to a vampire.

Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I.

It is a bit pricey, It's taken about 5 years and I probably have about 12K invested in equipment alone, doesn't count the 1300 CD's and 200 movies I have.  I lost the travel bug about 8 years ago. And the equipment I have is going to last for a good long time.

Of course if I wasn't single and no kids I could never have afforded it all.  It has become a bit of a disease.  {#Lol}

I think I am the exception in the RP universe.  Audio and home theater are my hobbies and I am an all out TV junkie.  Plenty of junk on, yeah, but that's what a remote and changing the channels is all about, it's like saying I won't read anymore because there are tons of trashy romance novels on the shelves..

Commercials?  Haven't watched any for 3 years since I got a DVR.

Run a 50" plasma with HD DirecTV hooked up to a surround sound system with an Outlaw 990/7700 pre/pro amp combo and SVS MTS-1 speaker system.  Have a Sony BDP S550 blu ray player. CD player, Squezzebox and several other compnents.

If you really want to experience good TV and home theater stop by my place.  {#Wink}

i have boycotted TV mainly because it was getting in the way of my reading anything and I noticed I was eating more.  I basically got rid of cable (which in Philadelphia means, no TV) a little bit after 9-11, the visuals were too much for me, and for the above reasons.

There still are ! I use googl.com/ig as a home page. All I have on it are the news feeds from The Washington Post, New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde etc.

And I will also solve your internet savvy issue and just tell you how to find almost anything you want to watch, on demand, without having to download a torrent.

When I was about 9 years old, our old black & white TV broke and my father refused to buy a replacement unless our grades came up for a year.  Somehow a year became three years and by they time we got a TV back in the house, reading and homework had become a habit with me.

Now I have no TV in my home.  I have a monitor hooked up to my DVD player but no antennae or cable.  I've decided I'm better that way.  The only time I want to watch TV is when there's a good show on and I've found that the good shows tend to be podcast on computer or available on DVD later...

Pay TV... go figure.

yea I don't have to listen to it anymore either, but the happy little music, that gay laugh of patricks, and the rye humor of squidward makes me giggle. I find the shows with violence (morals aside) make my eyes twitch worse. IMHO.
