Yes, I think I know what you're talking about (no Australia), and that to me, wasn't as bad as the one thing they did in the Swedish version (this person killed this other person, as opposed to just letting them die) which fundamentally changed the character. And in the Swedish version M's long running affair with E isn't mentioned at all. Still, both were, for me, good versions of a good book.

I'm now going through the Swedish movies, as a 6-part television series. Read the books, could have been written better, like the series better actually. However, Lisbeth Salander is one main character!
Edit: here "Drive" is the film to beat it seems, at least for the critics and film lovers.
