Oh, yeah, it's so obvious I'm a Washington outsider. And someone just not used to the way you guys operate. Because here you voted for the war and now you oppose the war. You're one who says, as so many politicians do, I was for it before I was against it or vice- versa. Americans are craving that straight talk and just want to know, hey, if you voted for it, tell us why you voted for it and it was a war resolution.

I thought this little part was annoying, the way she said it.

Seriously, we should fear the Bosniacs.  I hear they carry Laser Cats and are not afraid to use them.

Ah, crap

Bosniaks is real

Gestures like that, whether voulntary or involuntary (I'm sure her winks are strategic), are curious, and can cut either way.  Gore lost a lot of points in his debate for those audible, heavy sighs.  I suspect,. for many people, Palin gains points for being folksy or cute with her winks.  Bush's smirks fell somewhere inbetween.

My count:

Palin said Maverick 6 times.

Biden said it 9 times in that mini rant.

It looks like Palin said reform 13 times.

She only said Alaska 7 times?  It seemed like 70.

Yeah, it wasn't a great anecdote.  I liked what he was trying to say, once I figured it out.

Me too, once I figured he was talking about leg braces (I hope) and not orthodontia...

If they all have meaningful motivation, doesn't that excuse all of them for making bad decisions?

He said, "Joe, understand one thing. Everyone's sent here for a reason, because there's something in them that their folks like. Don't question their motive."

{#Lol}

What would be great entertainement would be for her to be on SNL and have a mock debate with Tina Fey portraying her. They did something (not a debate) like that with Hillary Clinton. I wonder if —at some point in the future, after the election — they could get her to do that. Palin, I mean.

Um, the debate - check the thread title.  And you must not read the threads much - there's quite a strong (and vocal, eh L8?) contingency for additional parties.

I think Gwen let them roam too much. She even answered yes each time one of them (mostly her) asked if he or she could say something on a topic unrelated to the question. She easily could have politely said no to those requests.

But, that said, it is a losing battle to keep pointing out that the candidate is not answering the question. That is why reporters covering the President do not do that except in the most extreme situations.  You can ask follow-up questions, but to point out the obvious really won't accomplish anything.  It's just sort of nature of the beast.  No moderator is going to continually point it out because that is all they would be doing (On the very first question, she did state that neither had answered her question, and they both laughed). The candidates in a poltiical debate will stray.  The key is to ask follow-up questions, and I don't think she was very effective on that; could have been stronger. She tended to just stick to her script of questions.

Yeah, that answer about expanding the power of the VP (she said something about enhancing "flexibilitiy", whatever that is supposed to mean) came out of the blue and opened the door for Biden to link she — and McCain — to Cheney.  Likle I said in an earlier post this morning, I thought Biden did an effective job of linking McCain to Bush.  This exchange is one example.
