Possibly because he wasn't the usual unrepentant, denying kind of bigot...

Every individual is responsible for his/her actions only. Robert Byrd died ten years ago this very day. His crimes died with him.

You bring him up as a distraction, a handful of dust thrown into the air, a quick whataboutist maneuver to distract from a losing argument.

Nice try. Go lose your argument.

Wrong, absolutely wrong.  He was a high ranking official in the KKK.  He needs to be cancelled like all the other racists are.  His statues must come down and his name must come off of buildings.  Why does he get a pass and others do not, especially in light of what is going on today ?

And then explain why you tried to tie him into reparations ?  That has nothing to do with anything I am addressing.

Woodrow Wilson is so much dust in the past, right ?  Yet he is getting his just due, finally.  I don't see how you can give Byrd a pass in light of all of this.

I think it is a fair and honest question, in light of the present.

Okay, then try this - I’m not interested in having any kind of dialog with you.

Then why did you reply earlier regarding Wallace ?

No need to reply.  It was rhetorical ... just a marker.

He obviously misspoke. Said 120 million instead of 120,000. It happens. Not a big deal unless we are to believe that he did not misspeak and actually believes 120 million have died. I do not believe that to be the case. I also did not believe that Obama thought there were 57 states in the union.

Trump keeps hitting this one on his twitter account. If that’s all he has . . . as Adm. Stockdale would say, he might be out of ammunition.  If you want to see some incoherent rambling, check out Trump’s response to Hannity asking him what his priorities are for his second term.

Well, it's not just hate - though there is plenty of that for Trump.  Most of the people who will vote against him just don't want him to be the President anymore.

The pertinent inquiry would be into the reasons for the “hate.” My guess is Kurtster and other Trump supporters  prefer to see the “hate” for  Trump as irrational and inexplicable, an emotional rote response devoid of reason.  As you say, there are reasons  people are so stridently opposed to him, reasons  people believe it critical that he not be re-elected.

He is in the very odd position of very possibly picking  President #47.  He has to pick the person who he feels is best suited to run the place if he can't...regardless of sex, race, age, anything.

It's very possible that the shuttering of the US, and by default his campaign, has allowed him to relax a bit mentally.  Now that he's had his foot off the gas for so long, there is a real question if someone in their late 70's can turn it back on again.   If he picks a VP who people are comfortable with, he can get over the finish line.  If he picks someone who raises doubts and follows that with poor showings in debates or makes some significant blunders....things could get closer.

More Americans realize every day that Trump is the worst answer possible.   If he ever loses the white men 40-65 without a college degree demo...he'll have lost everyone.   I would guess 60% of Americans would prefer to spin a wheel for the next President than to repeat the last 4 years.

I'm ready for 2020 to be over already.  The first half has totally sucked...and now we have to deal with a Presidential election.

Interesting. I'd say the same of both candidates right now. We are very possibly voting for the person who will pick the next president. Has Trump officially selected Pence?  I think he been sufficiently sycophantic (band name, also on the worst baskin robins flavors list).

That's true. Most of the country didn't want him to begin with, and he's done an insignificant amount of improvement to change people's minds.

And, I'd hope he'd pick George Wallace! He's hysterical! I saw him interviewed by Patton Oswalt before the plague and it was lots of fun.

I spent some time down in Pensacola and even got married there my first time.  I traveled back and forth between there and Gulf Shores, Ala (Kenny Stabler country) a lot.  I still remember the "Welcome To Alabama, George Wallace Governor" sign at the border.  It was quite clear that the sign had taken some direct hits by a shot gun blast or two or three.  He was a good democrat, too ... until he wasn't ...
