Since the car was 2 hours away, this was not a feasible scenario. And we thought the car had plates, because it did in the pictures. (Every other time I've ever bought a used car, we drove home with the previous plates on it.)
We were admittedly pretty dumb about it.
I'm just not sure the best way to talk about it at the hearing.
I'm sure the court hires Beaker to Google all transgressors and he will find this admission of your guilt. You are so-o-o screwed.

Same in Atlanta... they're too busy to waste the court's time over something small. Bigger fish to fry.

I agree. Make sure you bring all proof of current registration. If there is leeway for reducing the fines (and many jurisdictions do allow for this), this proof will be critical for purpose of obtaining it. Ignorance of any law is not a defense. But stating that you thought you were allowed to bring it back with bill of sale and then get temporary registration would go toward getting fines reduced (if that is within discretion of the administrative law judge). I would not try to make up a different story.

I'm pretty sure we found documentation that said it was ok to drive it with the title to get it home. I'll google in a few. just got home, feeling crappy. think my BP is either too high or too low. gotta relax a bit and take a reading.
