Huge plantar wart on the ball of my right foot: Stinging, throbbing, bruise-y feeling. I try to keep it at bay by 6 - 8 ibuprofen per day. I've tried all the household remedies and it's just not relenting. I'm calling for an appointment with the volunteer medical clinic since I'm uninsured. Any suggestions beyond amputation (beat you to it, Manbird)?

Plantar warts are significantly different from, and much more problematic than, "regular" warts on non-weight-bearing skin surfaces — so treatment of seriously symptomatic plantar warts such as yours should be undertaken only by qualified physicians — either a board-certified MD dermatologist (best choice) or a board-certified DPM podiatrist who has been in practice for 5 to 15 years, no less and no more (2nd best choice). Self-treatment of plantar warts with over-the-counter remedies usually results in more serious pain/injury than no treatment at all — and can make it much more difficult for a trained professional to try to "fix" the problem. Take particular care not to add a thermal- or chemical-burn injury to your already-painful plantar wart! Foot infections are not laughing matters . . . you could end up with an amputation.

How can my wart be removed? Warts can be removed in a number of ways. One way is called cryosurgery (freezing the wart). This 2-step process removes the wart without hurting the skin around it.
The first step is getting your wart ready to be removed. You can help with this step. The second step is freezing the wart, which will be done by your doctor in his or her office. You may need to have several freezing treatments before the wart is completely removed. More . . .

Liquid Nit will freeze the top off... but afterwards you need to continue to treat the spot with some sort of heat regimen to keep the roots of the wart from returning. As I said in earlier post, warts are very susceptible to mental healing. If you concentrate on the wart and tell it to go away... it will.

Use a hot X-acto knife to cut the top off carefully (dispose of excised tissue carefully because it's infected with wart spores), then soak the foot in very hot water with epsom salts in it daily (or twice daily). It should just fall off after a few days. (Also, use mental powers... warts respond to being told to "go away", I know because I've done it)

Just finished up with my cataract surgery. Second eye done yesterday. Now 20/20 in both eyes and with my right eye, I can clearly see the smallest line on the chart after a week ! Granted, I will need glasses for the small and tiny stuff (already reached that point anyway), but I can see the keyboard and monitor as well as the dash and all the instruments in the car without glasses. My expectations have been wildly exceeded. There has been some discussion about the new variable focus IOL's (IntraOccularLenses), but these are still 10 years away from being safe and predictable. The IOL's I have are an aspheric refinement of the tried and true standard fixed focus IOL's. What's more, they offer full UV protection and blue blocking characteristics built in. My retinas are now permanently filtered from the harmful and degenerative effects of UV radiation. The implants are designed to last a hundred years. And the colors ! WOW ! What I used to think was white was a dingy yellow green. That's what the aging process does to the crystaline lens. FWIW: as I have long maintained, lasik surgery can cause complications with cataract surgery. This was confirmed by my ophthamologist, based upon his experience of over 8,000 procedures. So for those considering lasik, think twice. It is permanent and irreversable. For those facing cataract surgery the outlook is fine. Don't be conned into the new variable focus IOL's. They are experimental in nature and once in, that's it, for the rest of your life. They are also profit centers for MD's who put their pocket book infront of their patient's well being. Disclaimer: not to be taken as medical advice, strictly an opinion, always consult your doctor.

They wanted me and my buddy who I went through the stem cell transplant with to take it ( a vaccine ) in clinicals after our transplants because we were at high risk for developing shingles afterwards. We both decided against it. Too many unknowns and possible side effects (don't remember what they were). I know one side effect was the possibility of getting shingles, even though it was not a live vaccine. I'm for helping people down the road, but I took enough experimental stuff already. I have been taking Acyclovir (an anti viral) for over two years however and at least another year for that. dmax ?
