Now that the legendary DAC makers like Burr-Brown have been gobbled up by Big Business, and chip mass-producers like Crystal and Cirrus Logic are making affordable and critically acclaimed DACs, what's in your receiver is probably pretty damn good.

I'm happy for you that you have the capability. Having that metadata show up in my player (which didn't happen with .wav) sure made me happy! Having Ogg/Vorbis capability is a Good Thing too, if you have a portable player with limited storage. I've found (by trial and error) a set of encoding settings that yield a ~256kbps file that sounds even better than the original LPCM on portable devices. Innernet radio is working, too. Listening to RP now. Sounds pretty good. Problem is, I have no idea which feed it is. Found it through the 'V-Tuner' app. Only offers one choice when it pops up. Have to ask Bill. BillG knows all. Enjoy!

My stereo is snobbish and will rick-roll your music selections that it doesn't like.
My stereo also likes to mess with your mind and will overlay subliminal Tony Robbins messages while playing music.
My stereo has so much power it could be leader of the free world.
My stereo is the most interesting stereo in the world - it doesn't always drink beer - but when it does.....

My stereo is actually a closet-monaural and lives in constant fear that its secret will be discovered. It avoids Pink Floyd music at all costs.

It's worse with CDs because the rotational velocity is always changing. Using a 2¢ quartz crystal in your receiver the time base will outperform the most expensive conventional CD player. The DAC itself doesn't have anything to do with clock or jitter. The exception being large professional (ie. studio) installations that use master clocks and sometimes FIFO buffers to re-clock a jittery signal. TV broadcasters have used FIFO buffers for decades to make VCR video suitable for broadcast. Now that the technology is so inexpensive, it's surprising that it's almost nonexistent in consumer audio equipment. Audio or video, the purpose is the same: to remove mechanical distortions. I suppose the high end manufacturers have ample motive to keep lasting solutions off the market. I'm just playing files. So I guess that the DAC is pretty decent and be happy it is.

I've already played my own burns (same files) through an outboard DVD player. Night and day difference. What once maked me grimmace now makes me smile.
