There's always been some undercurrent of that notion. Doesn't seem like he's outgoing enough to get the votes tho. Maybe Kim will do it.

It's actually good news: A local used implement (construction equipment, bulldozers, stuff like that) dealer has wanted to sell his building and land and move away (they got a rotten deal on another business they had here, just want to pull up stakes and choose a better town for them, and that town will be lucky to have them). So the vacant property on the main highway into town from "my" direction has been bought! It's right next to the FedEx facility, and they're going to be manufacturing designer clothing. This will be Kanye West's second venture in this town in the past 3 months...

Y'know, I didn't have really high hopes that his moving up there would turn out to be a good thing, but I was wrong. Dude is helping out, no question.

Yep. He's apparently bought some of the Flitner ranch over by Shell. Which is much more attractive than the land he bought here, IMO. I'm sure he's got someone telling him to sock some cash away in land so that's fine. At some point he's going to be unwelcome with some locals, though, if he keeps buying up land. No idea if he plans to allow access or not. But putting in any sort of manufacturing will win him some fans.

Because if you live in Wyoming for 6 months and 1 day, you can claim it as your primary residence and Wyoming doesn't have an income tax. If you have enough money to keep two houses, that probably does mean something significant. Anyway, ol' Walt just passed away a month or two ago. He was 93; my boss' back of the envelope guess puts his net worth at over a billion, but says the trust(s) he set up are being challenged by at least one son. We'll see how that goes: Walt was a CPA.

But on the good news front, Mrs. Walt had me come over and work on Walt's computer to get rid of/streamline some of the cables and nonsense he had, and help her stop a lot of emails he got. She gave me his computer speakers, which I didn't really need since we have a set at home that sound good, and at work I keep the $5 junky ones turned down too low to matter. But these are Bose and damn. I'll bet I can use them a bit louder without bothering the office since they sound so nice.

the bad news:  people easily succumb to their evolutionary negativity bias

the good news: there's plenty of good data/evidence to reverse it

wide ranging thoughts on the subject

please give this a listen

Why are we so gloomy about the world?

Statistics from around the world show huge improvements to our way of life, but many of us think the world is in decline. There are good reasons for this; climate change is often cited as the big one. But many of us aren’t aware of the huge strides we’ve made over the decades in reducing poverty, improving healthcare and tackling hunger. In fact, according to surveys of people in richer countries at least, the majority of people think the world is getting worse; but why? In this edition of the Why Factor, Sandra Kanthal asks if human nature is wired to fixate on the downsides of life.

the bad news...

Couple calls it quits over Trump: Wounds still raw after bitter U.S. election

Burning passions over Donald Trump's presidency are taking a personal toll on both sides of the political divide. For Gayle McCormick, it is particularly wrenching: she has separated from her husband of 22 years.

The retired California prison guard, a self-described "Democrat leaning toward socialist," was stunned when her husband casually mentioned during a lunch with friends last year that he planned to vote for Trump – a revelation she described as a "deal breaker."

"It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump," said McCormick, 73, who had not thought of leaving the conservative Republican before but felt "betrayed" by his support for Trump.

the good news,,,,

she's been tapped to head up the local "Wayne's World" fan club Garth look-alike vp position

Head Lice Now Resistant to Common Meds in 25 States

TUESDAY, Aug. 18, 2015 (HealthDay News) — Drug-resistant head lice are very likely coming to a school near you, U.S. investigators warn.

At least 25 states host lice populations that don't respond to common over-the-counter treatments, a new analysis reveals.

Permethrin, part of the pyrethroid class of insecticides, has long been the go-to weapon against head lice, mosquitoes, bedbugs and other insects.

But continued exposure to permethrin has caused a huge swath of the dreaded insects to develop genetic mutations that render such drugs useless.

"It's a very classic resistance story," said study lead author Kyong Yoon, an assistant professor in the biological sciences and environmental sciences program at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.

the good news...

Head lice, which can't jump or fly, transmit by direct physical contact. They quickly infest the neck and head, feeding on blood and attaching their eggs to the base of hair shafts.

"They itch, but they do not transmit disease," said Yoon. "So it's not at all life-threatening, even if it's very frustrating and uncomfortable."

2 people resigned from our ski patrol. They put in a lot of hours in teaching and sourcing supplies and equipment; we'll miss them.

2 people resigned from our ski patrol. They were insufferable know-it-alls who demeaned others and saw conspiracy around every corner.

Irony is that they complain that they put in a lot of hours and personal money into their volunteer service and would rather spend that time/money on family. Funny, when I was pushing for better benefits and reimbursements from the mountain in order to retain experienced patrollers and recruit new volunteers, these two cut me off, saying as volunteers, we shouldn't expect any return.
