Radio Paradise

I submitted this piece to a local hair salon which is having a "braid-themed" exhibition for July. After working out several different ideas and color studies, I arrived at this Alphonse Mucha-inspired, "Celtic Goddess", quasi-tarot composition. Part of the fun and challenge of this piece was working in a style and discipline that I ordinarily do not. While I've always admired the works of Mucha and the other art-nouveau artists, I never really wanted to paint that way, and I've never had the patience to do elaborate Celtic knots and braids. This is really a tongue-in-cheek, somewhat humorous piece, juxtaposing a few different themes and styles. Unfortunately, this piece was larger than my scanner bed, and it had to be scanned in two sections, the re-assembled on the computer, which accounts for the fuzziness in some parts of the image.

My gifted woodcarving friend Dave showed me his latest work—Peter Rabbit, which he made for a promotional giveaway. The rabbit has one of the sweetest, most lovable faces I've ever seen on a wooden figurine! I thought he'd look nice next to a chilled Kentucky Bourbon Ale.
