Different purpose. Might have a rear camera...
With a starting price of 150,000 pesos (US $8,590), the Olinia was designed for short distances and intensive daily use (8 to 12 hours of driving), with an estimated range of approximately 50 kilometers per hour.
At Sundayâs presentation, Oliniaâs engineers did a live demonstration of the vehicleâs accessibility features for wheelchair users, as well as its capacity to comfortably seat six passengers and store a spare tire in the back.
Furthermore, they noted that Olinia was designed with Mexicoâs heavy rainy season in mind.
âWe understand that a vehicle for Mexico needs to endure puddles, rain and floods. Thatâs why the carâs engine and battery have an IP 67 water protection resistance,â Director of Technology for Olinia Rafael Garayoa said.
Capuano said that Oliniaâs line of models will continue to expand, with the next reveal featuring a freight transport vehicle, to debut in July after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Who needs one when you have a camera?

It's not $5000. "With a starting price of 150,000 pesos (US $8,590)..."
According to Capuano , the Mexican government expects to install 2,000 charging stations across Mexico City, México state and Puebla between 2026 and 2027, with âtens of thousands of more stations across Mexicoâ in the pipeline. Olinia 1âs charging mechanism is compatible with the NACS (North American Charging Standard), the same charger used by Teslas.
Another article claimed there are already ~15000 chargers built since 2015, but most are private (incl. hotels, etc.)

Mexicans achieved this by creating their own working class political party just over 10 years ago.

I drive~1000 miles of the US west coast, and ~1000 miles of the baja peninsula a couple times a year and spend months in the country. I encounter more sketchiness and uncomfortable situations on the US portion of the trip. The border sucks (both sides), but when I'm ~ 15 miles inside Mexico, I can feel my shoulders relax. I encounter way more drug/gang issues in the US. Baja != Mexico, but overall, the culture here is a lot healthier for humans. And yeah beaches, check out the crowds though.
