Right. That's what people misunderstand. It's not giving up.
Acceptance means that it's raining, and you don't spend all day wishing it weren't raining. Instead, you get your umbrella.

Yeah. 

A lesson I learned long ago.  You get in more trouble for trying to kill someone and failing than you do for actually killing them.

The penalties are usually harsher for those that failed than those that succeeded.
